Via Metro.co.uk:
R2-D2 might look like a dustbin on wheels, but George Lucas has revealed he is basically the most significant character in the entire Star Wars saga.
In fact, the entire storyline is told from the perspective of the astromech droid as he is the official narrator of the space adventure.
Star Wars mastermind George says R2 is the keeper and narrator of the ‘journal of whills’, according to a new book called How Star Wars Conquered The Universe by Chris Taylor.
To clarify, The Journal Of Whills is a fictional book that recounts all the details of the Rebellion, The Force, the Jedi, the Dark Side and basically everything else that exists in the Star Wars universe.
‘The entire story of Star Wars is actually being recounted to the keeper of the Journal of the Whills – remember that? – a hundred years after the events of Return of the Jedi by none other than R2-D2,’ Chris’s book states having learned this salivating fact from Lucas’s animation director Rob Coleman.
So there you have it, the entire tale is basically stored on R2-D2’s hard drive.
It can only be assumed, therefore, that R2-D2 also learned about other tales around campfires to recount so the likes of spin-off film Rogue One could be told.
