Regal Robot LIFE-SIZED CZ-3 REPLICA BUST

ANNOUNCING OUR LIFE-SIZED CZ-3 REPLICA BUST – NUMBERED EDITION AND BRIAN MUIR SIGNATURE EDITION

Today we’re sharing a SNEAK PEEK at the two editions that make up our limited run of CZ-3™ life-sized prop replica busts. For this 1:1 prop recreation, we worked with a scan of the original droid™ costume to faithfully reproduce the wonderfully organic asymmetry in the costume’s mask, originally sculpted by legendary film sculptor, Brian Muir for Star Wars: A New Hope™. Each bust will be made in the U.S.A. and hand detailed by the FX artists in our New York studio.

Both editions will be available to order on July 13th starting at 12pm EST. Full details and photos will be posted on our site in one week, so keep an eye here and join our email newsletter to be alerted when that goes live and be in the know for this and all of our upcoming releases.

  • NUMBERED EDITION – $1499 – limited to 50 pieces. Both the bust and plaque will be hand numbered. Made in the U.S.A. and hand painted by our artists with authentic Star Wars style distressing.
  • SIGNATURE EDITION – $1799 – limited to just 15 pieces. Includes a plaque signed by original prop sculptor Brian Muir. Both the bust and plaques will be hand numbered. Made in the U.S.A. and hand painted by our artists with authentic Star Wars style distressing and additional layers of desert weathering and simulated “grease drips” to match CZ-3’s Mos Eisley scene.

Both editions will be offered with our new 3 easy payments Payment Plan via Partial.ly. See here for full details on that plan.

“As a fan of the making of our favorite films, I feel very fortunate that we had the chance to get hands-on and up-close with that original prop costume in our work to bring this replica to life. Our team spent hours examining, photographing and measuring the droid costume worn in the original trilogy and used high-detail laser scanning to capture every detail of the suit. Using that scan, we have faithfully reproduced the wonderfully organic asymmetry in the costume’s mask, originally sculpted by legendary film sculptor Brian Muir, and a bit of the bib area and collar to help turn this into a great overall character display. We took great lengths to maintain the integrity of the scan and vintage details to create the ultimate replica of this droid. Gordon Tarpley handled that digital task beautifully and I personally distressed the paint masters for these editions. Mr. Muir has graciously signed the plaques for the signature edition and our New York team is now preparing to produce this super limited run and hand paint each piece, capturing that classic Star Wars look and feel with layers of aging and weathering.” – Tom Spina (Regal Robot founder)

We’ll be sharing more photos and full details next Monday, July 6th, 2020. Please check back then and follow us on social where we’re @regalrobot for more sneak peeks this week!

Thank you all for reading. We look forward to making these busts for collectors looking to bring something unique and authentic to their homes! If you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time!

Regal Robot Spotlight – The Mandalorian’s “Grav Charge” Magnet

Via our friends at Regal Robot:
magnetic bombs from the Mandalorian

Our latest magnet was inspired by the Star Wars™ Disney+ series, The Mandalorian and our team began development of this piece shortly after the show debuted, but funny enough, we didn’t always know what they were called!

We loved all the great gear and Mandalorian tech throughout the series, but the detonators Mando used to break through walls, take out downed AT-STs or just get folks’ attention grabbed us right away. Din Djarin™ almost always wears three on his belt and the way they stuck to the metal plate on his belt, various walls and surfaces made us think, this might be just the thing for the next piece in our series of magnets!

With first-hand study of original production props, we designed our new magnet to be cast in solid resin with faux metal paint and a non-lighted translucent red lens. At 2 inches in diameter, the magnet is the same size as show prop that inspired it. A strong neodymium magnet allows it to hang on certain types of metal and the underside features a printed label with 2D art mimicking the detailing seen on the original prop.

Mando's magnetic bombs from the Mandalorian

But once we developed this new piece, then came the question – what do we call it? Internally, we’d been using the terms Mando’s bombs or Mando’s detonators but clearly there had to be a proper name. It took a bit of investigation and Lucasfilm confirmed: the official name of this detonator is, “The Mandalorian’s Grav Charges.”

We absolutely love that sort of detective work here at Regal Robot, and we are thrilled to be able to utilize the proper name for this bombastic (and magnetic!) item.

The Mandalorian's detonators are called Grav Charges
Did you know the detonators Mando uses are called Grav Charges?

So there’s a little “did you know?” tidbit for the day! Thank you for reading and we hope you’ll continue to follow along with our new creations here and on social media, where you can find us as @RegalRobot. We hope you’ve enjoyed this spotlight on our new magnet and you can use the link below to order one, three or more for yourself! They’re made in the U.S.A. and come ready to display. Add The Mandalorian’s Grav Charge to your collection, home, office, man-cave or fridge!

Regal Robot – Customized Han Carbonite Desk

Via Regal Robot:

“Put Captain Solo in the cargo hold.” Who watches this scene from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and immediately thinks, “You know what Han in carbonite would be perfect for? A desk!” The answer: the Regal Robot team. If you’re a Star Wars™ fan, you’ve probably seen our Han Solo in Carbonite desk floating around the internet. One fan in particular saw this design and knew that he needed it for his home, along with a few special modifications. You can see more images and details on our Custom Han Solo in Carbonite Project Page

Regal Robot – Imperial Themed Desk!

Via our friends at Regal Robot, please click here for all the images and info!

Never underestimate the power (or great eye for interior design) of the Dark Side. Our client, Doug, originally requested a custom desk similar to the one Emperor Palpatine uses in Revenge of the Sith, but after seeing a concept we provided for a Darth Vader inspired desk, he chose a new path. You can see the results (and many more photos) on our Imperial-Themed Desk Page. This was a very fun collaboration for our team to work on alongside Doug, so let’s hear more about the story from the man himself!

Regal Robot – Custom Life-Sized Concept Bib Fortuna™ Bust

Via our friends at Regal Robot, please click here for all the image and info! We think it’s great homage to the artwork of Ralph McQuarrie!

You can learn more about this incredible project and our client’s experience in this Client Spotlight Review he sent us!

Iconic concept artwork permeates the look of our favorite films and we were thrilled to be asked to interpret one of our favorite artist’s creature designs as a realistic, life sized character bust. An early sketch for Star Wars™: Return of the Jedi gave us an alternate look for Jabba the Hutt™’s majordomo, Bib Fortuna™.  Wearing a cowl and large hat and with a bloated visage, this creature differs substantially from the on-screen character’s look we’re all so used to.  Working with just a single sketch, we interpreted this unique vision for the character as a realistic, 1:1 creature.

Paul Bateman, a former associate and friend of the original artist created several new sketches of this specific look for the character, showing him from alternate views. We then translated that, life-sized in clay, with FX artist Casey Wong as lead sculptor. With the face shaped by hand, molds were made and the head cast in translucent flesh-toned resin, which Tom Spina then hand painted for a realistic look.

The cowl and hat were fabricated in various foam materials and the surfaces coated with flocking to give the look of a real felt hat but in extreme proportions. The cowl was aged and distressed to match the torn edges and rough look in the original inspiration sketch.

As a final touch, a pedestal table was crafted so that the client might pair the two. The table drew inspiration from concept paintings of Jabba™’s palace by the same incredible artist. We chose aged faux stone construction and a detail stripe with otherwordly-looking patterns to reflect his amazing work in this new creation.

Regal Robot – A Tribute to Peter Mayhew

Via Regal Robot:

Our limited edition life-sized Chewbacca Bust was originally intended to be a signature edition. With the passing earlier this year of Peter Mayhew, the legendary actor who originated the role of Chewbacca™, we worked with Lucasfilm, Peter Mayhew’s family and the Peter Mayhew Foundation to transform this limited edition bust into a tribute to the late actor who portrayed our favorite Wookiee™.

Sadly, Peter passed away just before he was to sign the plaques for our busts. Two special people have stepped up to fill his very large shoes.

The plaques were redesigned to reflect that this was now a Peter Mayhew Tribute Edition and Peter’s wife Angie hand-signed each numbered plaque.  In addition to being Peter’s wife, she was also his voice in the fan community and continues to be Peter’s voice after his passing with the Peter Mayhew Foundation.

As an additional tribute, Mark Hamill graciously sent us hand-signed notes with some of his memories of Peter and we included one with each bust. In lieu of any payment for those signings, we made a donation to the Peter Mayhew Foundation to help continue all of the great work they do!

My greatest hope is that we have turned this into the best possible tribute to Peter. I had the great fortune of sharing one of the busts with him at Star Wars Celebration Chicago.  I’m so humbled by how gracious and warm he was, and how much he appreciated the work we did. It was a truly magical moment!

I hope that each of the collectors that brought these busts into their homes was genuinely happy with the outcome. Their enthusiasm for the project and trust in us was greatly appreciated!
