LEGO Exclusives and Reveals at SDCC

COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL: SAN DIEGO (July 17, 2019) – LEGO Systems, Inc. highlights classic characters and beloved properties while inviting attendees to imagine new ones at this year’s Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC), the world’s largest comic and entertainment convention. Fans can build their own comic book, and custom LEGO minifigure photo stations invite fans to express their LEGO creativity. The company will also showcase new building sets and offer exclusive SDCC retail sets and LEGO minifigure giveaways. LEGO® Master Builders have created three new show-stopping large-scale LEGO brick models of iconic Star Wars™, MARVEL® and DC™ characters that will border the activities at booth #2829 in Hall D at the San Diego Convention Center, July 17-21.

“For years we’ve been helping fans celebrate their passion for the characters, vehicles and worlds of the biggest pop culture and entertainment properties through LEGO bricks and minifigures,” said Amanda Madore, senior brand relations manager, LEGO Systems, Inc. “We’re excited to debut interactive experiences that let Comic-Con attendees further personalize those passions as well as to connect socially with fans around the world who aren’t able to make it to the show floor.”

LEGO® Star Wars™
LEGO Star Wars is celebrating 20 years since the property debuted with LEGO by showcasing classic and upcoming elements of the saga in brick-form at SDCC. With anticipation for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker building, a life-size LEGO look at an upcoming character from the film – a Sith trooper™ –will be displayed at the LEGO booth. LEGO Master Builders used 34,307 bricks and spent 259 hours designing and building the six-foot-two model. Attendees can take a piece of the dark side home with a show-exclusive collectible LEGO Star Wars Sith Trooper Bust building set, available for purchase for select attendees who register on Comic-Con’s Exclusives Portal in advance of the Con.

A disturbance in the Force has also allowed two never-before-seen LEGO Star Wars sets, Obi-Wan’s Hut and Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder™, based on iconic scenes from Star Wars: A New Hope, to be displayed in the LEGO booth, long before they become available in January 2020 for $29.99 each.

LEGO Minifigure Giveaway Details
To secure an opportunity to receive an exclusive LEGO minifigure giveaway, show attendees must visit the Sails Pavilion beginning at 9:30am each day to enter an instant drawing giveaway, to be fulfilled on the spot while supplies last. One drawing per person per day.

Forbes First Look at LEGO ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ Sets To Be Shown First At Comic-Con

Via Forbes.com:

Twenty years ago, in a move that likely secured the toy company’s relevance for years more, LEGO began taking on third-party movie licenses. Nowadays, it’s commonplace to see popular sets based on the likes of Harry Potter and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or even the occasional fan-voted property like Voltron and The Big Bang Theory. But two decades back, it was taking a big risk by no longer being a self-contained toy universe. Mitigating the risk somewhat was the fact that they started with Star Wars, which is probably the safest licensing bet on the planet. Although for parents who liked LEGO for having a complete lack of war toys, the introduction of even space conflict could have been a stumbling block. Instead, it turned the company’s fortunes around, and its licensed collectible minifigs at Comic-Con tend to be among the most sought after items there.

LEGO has been celebrating the anniversary of its Star Wars line all year with new remakes of its first sets, but at Comic-Con this summer they will showcase two new sets from the film that started it all: A New Hope, or, if you’re my age, plain old Star Wars. Here, for the first time, are images of these: a Landspeeder set with Luke Skwyalker, C-3PO, and a Jawa; and Ben Kenobi’s hut, with Luke, Artoo, and a Tusken Raider.

Ben’s hut opens up to reveal an interior full of key items like a hologram Leia microfigure, blue milk carton, and training drone. The Landspeeder comes with a small cave for the Jawa to hide in, and stash its weapon.

Both sets will be available January 1st, 2020, for $29.99, and are designed to be easy for younger collectors to assemble, but with all the details older fans enjoy. And unlike the hard-to-get Comic-Con exclusives, you’ll be able to find them everywhere LEGO is sold

LEGO Star Wars: No Microtransactions In Skywalker Saga Game

Via Screenrant.com:

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga won’t include microtransactions of any kind, according to TT Games designer Mike Consalvey. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a reimagining of every LEGO Star Wars game that came before it, aside from The Clone Wars entry. It’ll have players progress through Episodes I through IX with new gameplay mechanics, enhanced visuals, tons of characters, and more.

This time around, a new currency called Kyber Bricks is used in place of the gold bricks that were a staple of every LEGO game that came before. Kyber Bricks are a spin on Star Wars’ Kyber Crystals, which are used to power the Jedi and Sith lightsabers. Of course, players can also acquire Studs, a mechanic players are already used to. Unlockables overall will be more in-depth than ever.

As part of an an interview with Screen Rant, designer Mike Consalvey said that players can expect everything in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga to be earnable via gameplay. Kyber Bricks will not be purchasable. So like a traditional LEGO game, players will have to run through levels multiple times and explore if they want to see and unlock everything The Skywalker Saga has to offer. Here are Consalvey’s full quotes on the subject.

So what’s going on with the game’s economy? There are Kyber Bricks now instead of the Gold, and they mentioned they can be used to customize vehicles, characters, etc.

So yeah, with Kyber Bricks, essentially… if you know about the history of LEGO games, in general, we have Gold Bricks. Kyber Bricks is that sort of same collectible; the method of collecting Kyber Bricks is pretty much the same as Gold Bricks. But in this instance, we’re using them to add different upgrades to vehicles, level of customization, and that sort of thing. The more you collect along the way, the more you can get, as well as the use of Studs, which is traditional with our game. It’s collecting the LEGO Studs that [allows you] to purchase different characters or different items within the game. So it’s sticking to what we usually do in LEGO Star Wars games, but actually just making it more in-depth in terms of the unlockables and that sort of thing.
