The news that Game of Thrones helmers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are joining the Star Wars family was met with surprisingly mixed reactions across social media, ranging from wild enthusiasm, eye-rolling cynicism, to outright distaste that the family-friendly franchise was being offered to the two guys that read A Song of Ice and Fire and thought, “this story could do with a bit more rape.”

Personally, I happen to like the two showrunners, and think they did a great job adapting an excessively complex novel to screen, even if they did make a few mistakes along the way. But many Star Wars fans seem to be growing increasingly fatigued by the steady stream of incoming content.

I remember when the news first broke that Disney was buying Lucasfilm and reviving Star Wars – the office I was working in erupted into an orgy of nerd hysteria. The series that had defined countless childhoods was returning, without George Lucas and his penchant for bumbling “comedy” sidekicks.

But these days, fans have the upcoming Solo (plus the rumored Yoda, Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan spin-offs), Episode IX, Rian Johnston’s mysterious new trilogy, the Benioff and Weiss films, plus content for Disney’s new streaming service. Whew.
