With the Star Wars franchise is full creation mode, there are no less than three different movies in various stages of production. Yet somehow, we know almost nothing about any of them. It looks like that will be changing, however. Star Wars Celebration Europe is coming up next month and a new panel has been announced that will put Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson on the same stage as Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the men directing the Young Han Solo movie. One would think that one of the topics of conversation will be the movies they’re all currently making.
Star Wars Episode VIII is currently filming, while the movie about Han Solo is in pre-production. As Lucasfilm has been remarkably good at keeping things under wraps, we know very little about the details of either of these films. The rumor mill is, for the most part, focused on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which has kept the other films free and clear. However, the report by The Hollywood Reporter is that all three directors will be on the stage, along with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy, for a “Future Filmmakers Panel” on Sunday, July 17, in London. This makes it sound like the idea is to focus on the men doing the directing, not necessarily the stories that any of them are telling. At the same time, we have to assume that some announcements are forthcoming.
To be sure, it will be the Lucasfilm approved list of details, so we don’t expect to hear any major spoilers. At this point, however, anything will be news. Star Wars: Episode VIII doesn’t even have an official title yet. There’s a more than decent chance that this could be revealed at Star Wars Celebration. The title could go a long way to giving us a clearer idea of what we’re in for with the fiIm.
In the case of the Han Solo movie, the only thing that we know is that it will star Alden Ehrenreich in the lead role. Beyond that, we’re pretty much in the dark, although one person, who’s in a position to know says the script is absolutely amazing, so there’s that. This one doesn’t have a title either, though it will likely be awhile before we get one officially. Although, Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is looking like a safe bet at this point.
Until July, all we have are details on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Hopefully, we’ll get a new trailer for it at Star Wars Celebration, too.
