Young Cosplayer Gets A Surprise From Star Wars Group

It was hard to say which lines were longer: the ones for celebrity meet-and-greets or the ones for photo-ops with cosplayers at MegaCon.

David White of Port St. John, a longtime member of the Mandalorian Mercs, was touched by one of the photo-ops. He and members of his “Star Wars”-inspired cosplay crew met Preston Todaro, who has Down syndrome. The young boy was wearing a Jedi costume.

His mom, Bach Todaro, recalled the impromptu photo shoot. “Earlier (Preston) took a photo with a Storm Trooper, and the Storm Trooper walked Preston over to a group of 10 other ‘Star Wars’ characters,” she said. “It made his day.”

Preston and his parents attended all four days of MegaCon. When he noticed FLORIDA TODAY photographer Tim Shortt taking pictures, Preston smiled and stuck out his hand in a Luke Skywalker/”use The Force” move.

Then he high-fived members of the Rebel Legion (the good guys in “Star Wars”).

“People who put the time in, who spend time with the kids, get them excited … whether it’s make-believe or fantasy, it brings the whole community together,” said his father, Phillip Todaro of Fort Lauderdale.

“It melts your heart,” said White. “We had all of our guys standing around him in costume. To bring a smile to that kid’s face is wonderful. I love it.”
