Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker Gets a Different Title in Japan

Via Cbr.com:

As Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker prepares its international marketing campaigns, the upcoming sequel has received a slightly different title in Japan.

According to the fan Twitter account Star Wars Stuff, the film’s Japanese theatrical title is Star Wars: Dawn of Skywalker, suggesting a new beginning of sorts for the Skywalker family in the eagerly anticipated film.

The foreign translation of Episode IX isn’t the first time a Star Wars film has received a different title overseas changing implications about the story. The Last Jedi used a plural form for its Spanish and Italian translated titles, suggesting that there were multiple final Jedi in the film rather than just one. In response to the speculation over the translation, filmmaker Rian Johnson confirmed that there was only one, true last Jedi in the film.

With Luke Skywalker dead and the final fate of Leia Organa unknown, it is unclear what The Rise/Dawn of Skywalker could entail for the franchise’s family of protagonists but, with the film closing out the Skywalker Saga, the end could signal a new beginning of sorts.
