There might be a lot of Star Wars phone cases out there, but there’s none that do what these ones from Osaka-based Denshi Gihans do.

Part artistically rendered blueprint and part functional circuit board, Denshi Gihan uses gold-plated circuit lines to design a fully functional board in the shape of the Rebel’s iconic X-Wing Fighter craft. Each of the cases light up without the use of batteries, thanks to their smart design that uses the energy from the phone signal to power the built in LED.

As well as iPhone cases, Star Wars transit pass holders that light up each time they’re pressed against a ticket gate sensor are available for those within Japan. The X-Wing design has a range of three colours to choose from, on either a traditional green PCB board, black or white.

The stylish design will cost you, though. The cases for 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 6S phones is priced at ¥16,200, which converts to $150, AU$200 and £100. The iPhone 6 Plus and 6 Plus cases are about $10 more expensive.

Apart from the Star Wars brand, with these products being fully sanctioned by Lucasfilm, the accessories are priced so high due to being plated with real gold. It’s the latest official Star Wars merch to come out of Japan, following a quirky BB-8 fridge alarm and beeps aggressively if you leave the fridge door open for too long.

Lucasfilm are taking advantage of the franchise’s renewed popularity following the blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, which grossed over $2 billion at the global box office. The next Star Wars flick, tentatively titled “Episode VIII”, is scheduled for a December 2017 release.
