Today is Sept. 15, which means we are exactly three months away from the theatrical debut of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in a number of foreign territories, including Greece, Russia and Italy. For the record, it opens in North America, the United Kingdom and Japan (among other places) on Dec. 16 of this year.
Like I did last year around this time with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I’m going to offer a two- or three-part box office prediction post divided into “pessimistic,” “optimistic” and (if there is anything left to say) “realistic” posts.
Yesterday was the somewhat “sky is falling” pessimistic prediction, one predicated on the film not being good, audiences not being as curious the second time out, and the film behaving like a worst-case-scenario December fantasy release here and abroad. Today is the other side of that coin, which is the “Holy crap, everything went right!” scenario.
