The galaxy far, far away is a dangerous place. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a droid, a creature, a bar patron, or a Force user — you have to stay on your toes. Of course, keeping away from the business end of a lightsaber will go a long way toward keeping you in one piece. It might be an elegant weapon, but the sword is also a quite dangerous one. We didn’t see anyone accidentally injure themselves with lightsabers in the films (miraculously), but we did see both Jedi and Sith wield lightsabers in fights which led to some… incidents. Those incidents often involve the loss of arms and/or legs.

Lightsabers weren’t the cause of all the lost limbs in the first six Star Wars films, but it is the most frequent offender. Keep reading to learn about every time a major character (and some creatures) lost a limb (or several) in the films and how it happened.
