‘Star Wars’ Comics Bundle

Via Cnet.com:

Good news, my brothers and sisters! The Humble Star Wars Comics Bundle offers a massive collection of Luke, Leia, Vader, Maul, and more for cheap. I wouldn’t plan on going anywhere this weekend.

For those unfamiliar with Humble’s modus operandi, it works like this: You can name your own price for six titles, including the 26-issue “Star Wars Omnibus” and five-issue mini-series “Star Wars: Jedi – Volume 1 – The Dark Side.” Mighty nice deal if you stop there.

Beat the average (currently just under $10), though, and you’ll get five additional titles, including the 11-issue “Star Wars: The Old Republic – Volume 1 – Blood of the Empire.” And if you pony up at least $15, you’ll get a twelfth book: “Star Wars Volume 1: In the Shadow of Yavin” (six issues).

All told, it’s a whopping 89 issues, with a combined value of $190. So, yeah, a pretty good deal for fans. If you’re interested, the titles all come from publisher Dark Horse, though “Omnibus” is comprised of 26 issues from the Marvel Comics series that launched in 1977 alongside the first movie.

The comics are all provided DRM-free, and in multiple formats (CBZ, EPUB, PDF, etc.) so you can read on the device of your choice. Take note, however, that viewing them on, say, a tablet or e-reader can involve a bit of hoop-jumping.

Like other Humble Bundle bundles, this one lets you divert a portion of your payment to charity — in this case, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. That’s all well and good, but why not add a second, more humanitarian, cause to the mix? Just saying.

Even so, this is pretty much a must-buy for any “Star Wars” fan. Thoughts?

Bonus deal: Speaking of bundles, StackSocial has a seriously awesome one for Mac users: The Mac to the Future Bundle (punny!) includes eight popular Mac apps and 25 OS X and Web-development courses for $29.99. Corel Lightroom competitor AfterShot Pro 2 is worth $80 all by itself (not $100 as indicated on the promo page, but you get the idea).

Bonus deal No. 2: Snapwire is a cool service that puts an army of photographers to work creating a custom “stock” photo for your company, newsletter, Web site, or whatever. For a limited time, AppSumo is offering a free $25 Snapwire credit. You can use it to purchase an existing Marketplace photo or apply it toward your own custom photo. Neat!

Bonus deal No. 3: Computer acting up — or slowing down? For a limited time, SharewareOnSale has the popular Glary Utilities Pro (Win) for free. Normally $39.99, this powerful tool can clean your Registry, find duplicate files, remove junk files, and lots more. Check the overwhelmingly positive user reviews over at Download.com (but make sure to hit up that SharewareOnSale link for the giveaway, which includes a single-PC lifetime license).
