Via Forbes.com:
Early in the month news started making the rounds that the new teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens that everyone expected to debut at Star Wars Celebration would show up at the opening panel. There were rumors that Thursday’s Force Awakens Panel with Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy would be simulcast in theaters around the world. Those rumors ended up being true and the simulcast was opened up to everyone through a Verizon sponsored live stream.
The live streaming of the panel didn’t include the actual teaser, but a version on the official Star Wars Youtube page went live before the teaser finished rolling in Anaheim. Thousands watched on Youtube, StarWars.com and in their local theaters, spreading the trailer all over the world in a matter of minutes. At the panel for Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said the seconds Force Awakens teaser had been viewed a record-setting 88 million times worldwide in the first 24 hour period.
