It has now been confirmed Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson will attend this weekend’s D23 expo. With Lucasfilm forgoing the opportunity to have a Hall H presentation at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, D23 represents the last high-profile event of the summer for the studio to promote their upcoming slate of films. All eyes in the galaxy far, far away are following the development of the young Han Solo spinoff following the last-minute director shakeup and are curious to see if the standalone will be part of the live-action film panel. In the meantime, it does look like fans will receive some updates on Episode VIII.
With just five months until the movie’s premiere (as of this writing), it’s no surprise there should be a big Last Jedi push at the convention. Previously, it was reported there would be an Episode VIII behind-the-scenes sizzle reel at D23 (similar to the ones for The Force Awakens and Rogue One in past years), but there could be some more in store. The man who called the shots on the highly-anticipated sequel will take to the stage, just like he did at Celebration Orlando back in April.
Responding to a fan question on Twitter, Johnson said he will be going to D23. While he didn’t reveal anything beyond that, it’s safe to assume he will come out during Lucasfilm’s portion of the live-action film presentation to discuss The Last Jedi and share some goodies with attendees.
