The organizers of New York Comic Con, Chicago’s C2E2 and Seattle’s Emerald City Comicon — in addition to events around the globe, including Shanghai Comic Convention and Oz Comic-Con: Sydney — will hold the first Keystone Comic Con on Sept. 14-16 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, anticipating a turnout of around 80,000 attendees over the weekend.Talking to Newsarama.com, ReedPOP event director Mike Armstrong explained the choice of location for the new show by saying, “In conversations with publishers, retailers and artists, Philly kept coming up as a city that they see a ton of opportunity in. … We have also developed a relationship with the convention center and the city at large through our launch of PAX Unplugged, which is coming up this November. It’s been a perfect storm of opportunity, interest and availability.”
The company plans to hire three staff members to dedicate to the event full-time, with the intent of creating interest ahead of the show not only amongst fans, but potential business partners. “Having a dedicated ReedPOP team working on this event year-round, we are going to work hard to develop partnerships and collaborations with local businesses, fan groups, retailers, breweries … you name it,” Armstrong said.
ReedPOP’s next event on the calendar is New York Comic Con, which begins Thursday at the Javits Center and runs through Sunday.
