Matthew McConaughey has confessed his love for Wookiees and admitted that he’d be interested in a Star Wars role if the script and character were right.
At the recent Interstellar press conference in London, the film’s director and cast discussed their favourite sci-fi characters, with Christopher Nolan picking Darth Vader, and Jessica Chastain choosing Princess Leia.
McConaughey went for Chewbacca, and with a slate of Star Wars films going into production over the next few years, we asked the Oscar-winner if he’d be interested in potentially joining the franchise if the part was right.
“Sure – there’s not anything that I’m not open to embracing” he replied. “I want it to be a quality script, I want a quality character. I want to be a little scared of it. I want to have new challenges. I want to do something… find in a character where I can get to a point where I feel like nobody could be doing this but me. I’m going to have an original experience… an original take. That takes work to get to that point, but whatever the genre I’m wide open.”
As for his love of Star Wars’ walking carpet, McConaughey added that he likes all hairy beasts…
“King Kong is one of my favourite love stories. I’ve got an affection for the mammalian in all of us. I’m simple – I’ve always got a soft spot for the furry creatures.”
Interstellar is in cinemas right now, while if McConaughey does end up in a Star Wars movie, we want a cut.
