GARTH Tander will cross to the dark side for next month’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 but don’t worry Holden fans, the long-time ‘Team Red’ poster boy isn’t switching makes.
Instead, Tander’s Holden Racing Team machine will wear a special livery at the iconic V8 Supercars event to promote the upcoming new Star Wars film.
The No. 2 Commodore, set to be shared by Tander and Warren Luff, will switch its usual white for a menacing matt black scheme to promote Star Wars: The Force Awakens, set to hit cinemas on December 17.
The eye-catching look sees the team’s traditional ‘helmet and lion’ emblem swapped for leading character Kylo Ren and his lightsaber on one of the Holden’s flanks, and a First Order Stormtrooper on the other.
It will mark the team’s fifth livery of the 2015 season as HRT celebrates its 25th year in the sport.
Tander and Luff have some unfinished business at Mount Panorama, missing last year’s race after their car was destroyed in a crash during a practice session.
They head to Bathurst off the back of a solid finish at the Sandown 500 with Tander hoping to add another chapter to HRT’s storied history in The Great Race, 25 years on from the team’s maiden win in the event.
“Star Wars is the greatest movie franchise in history, so I know there will be a lot of interest around our livery from not only our loyal Holden V8 fans, but Star Wars fans globally,” Tander said.
