Yes, “Star Wars” creator George Lucas is building a museum on Chicago’s lakefront. But it will not be a “Star Wars” museum, the filmmaker said in Chicago Friday, calling that an idea that has been “blown all out of proportion.”
Speaking at a Chicago Ideas Week event Friday afternoon, Lucas said that in the portion of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art devoted to moviemaking, some artifacts indeed would be from the “Star Wars” series. But, he added, “We’ll have ‘Indiana Jones,’ we’ll have ‘Lord of the Rings.’ We’re going to have a lot of movies, not just my movies.”
Lucas was making his first public comments about the museum, which he is planning to fund, endow and build on a 17-acre Chicago Park District lakefront parcel currently occupied by two parking lots south of Soldier Field.
