First Look At Disney’s Star Wars Theme Park Expansions

Via Theverge.com:

It’s hard to believe that when Disney announced plans this past summer to build Star Wars-themed expansions in both Disneyland and the Disney World Resorts, The Force Awakens was still a giant question mark looming over the future of the brand. Last night, with the critical success and over $2 billion in ticket sales for the film, a confident Disney used the Disneyland 60 televised event to showcase the first extended look at the theme park project.

Harrison Ford introduced a montage of details and concept art pieces with that “I can’t tell if he wants to be here” swagger. “I’m so blessed that I had the opportunity to be a part of it, to walk in these iconic locations,” said Ford. “And soon, you will be able to do that as well, not in a galaxy far, far away, but a place close to home.”

For regular Disneyland visitors, the art provides something pleasant to look forward to as chunks of the park close indefinitely to make way for construction on the Star Wars project. Judging from the concept art, the expansions could feature a marketplace, a landing bay, a cantina, a museum or store of some sort, a fancy restaurant, and possibly a ride on a Millennium Falcon — or at least a photo-op alongside it.
