Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley has revealed that she isn’t keen on the idea of her character being involved in a romantic relationship.
With Rey and Oscar Isaac’s character Poe meeting at the end of The Last Jedi, some fans were left hoping that their relationship will develop as the franchise continues. Daisy Ridley, however, doesn’t believe that the films need to include this aspect.
“I haven’t spoken to JJ [Abrams] but… I did a film this year that is not romantic,” Ridley told MTime. “I think it’s wonderful to have relationships that are not romantic.”
She continued: “I don’t think in films you always need a romantic relationship and I think friend relationships can be romantic in their gestures and their intimacy and all of that.
“So I think – hopefully – if Rey and Poe get to have some scenes together and stuff, that there will be intimacy. But I think it doesn’t – for me – it doesn’t have to be romantic love.”
With the latest Star Wars movies being praised for featuring strong female characters, it’s questionable as to whether a romantic sub-plot would be the right way to go.
