PSWCS.org Offers International Shipping For Pets for U.S. Vets 2016 Charity Drive

PSWCS.org and the Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society have joined forces with Pets for U.S. Vets, a program of the Washington Area Humane Society in Washington, PA, to sell a C-3PO medallion to raise money for their ongoing mission of providing pets, free of charge, to military veterans.  All animals are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and micro-chipped.

Pets for U.S. Vets was started by Suzi Smith in 2010 and she has worked tirelessly since then to secure funding to cover the costs of the free adoptions.  Now in its sixth year, the program is averaging 50 adoptions per year to veterans.

To raise funds for Pets for U.S. Vets, PSWCS.org is selling a limited run of 1,000 medallions featuring C-3PO.  This is the sixth medallion and charity that PSWCS.org has partnered with.

Each medallion has been cast in gold toned metal and features C-3PO on the front along with the date and name of the charity, Pets for U.S. Vets.  The back has the PSWCS logo.

The medallions are sold online for $12.50 each, including shipping within the US, and are now available for shipping to international addresses.  International shipping will be calculated by PayPal at the time of checkout.  International buyers are responsible for any applicable import or customs fees.

Hayden Christensen Reveals Why He Quit Acting After Playing Anakin Skywalker

Via Independent.co.uk:

Hayden Christensen, known to many as Anakin Skywalker, has revealed why he quit Hollywood after finding global fame in the Star Wars prequels.

The 34-year-old was just 19 when George Lucas cast him in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and the sudden worldwide attention left him feeling like a fraud. He packed it all in and went to live on a farm.

“I felt like I had this great thing in Star Wars that provided all these opportunities and gave me a career, but it all kind of felt a little too handed to me,” he told the LA Times. “I didn’t want to go through life feeling like I was just riding a wave.”

Christensen’s first film in five years, 90 Minutes in Heaven, was released in September to scathing reviews but he insists he is happy keeping a lower profile.

“You can’t take years off and not have it affect your career,” he said. “But I don’t know – in a weird, sort of destructive way there was something appealing about that to me.

“There was something in the back of my head that was like, ‘If this time away is gonna be damaging to my career, then so be it. If I can come back afterwards and claw my way back in then maybe I’ll feel like I earned it.”

There was talk of Christensen briefly appearing in the new Star Wars movie The Force Awakens in a vision showing his battle with the dark and light side, but ultimately it was Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan that spoke to Rey.

Star Wars 8 arrives in 2017, which the screenwriter has promised will be “weird”.

‘STAR WARS’ COUPLES TATTOOS

Via rebelcircus.com:

It isn’t very difficult to bring two Star Wars fans together.  Mention Jawas or the Dagobah System, and prepare for the horde.  When two Star Wars fans happen to also share an attraction, the Force could not be stronger.  In their future, there are movie marathons to be had, rare figurines to be collected, and intergalactic theories to be discussed. But for the ultimate fans—there is permanent ink.  Plenty of couples around the world get matching tattoos, but true Star Wars aficionados rock the kind from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Set to Take Over Imax for a Month

Via Hollywoodreporter.com:

For Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Imax is going big — really big. For the first four weeks of its run, set to begin Dec. 18, J.J. Abrams’ sequel will have all of Imax’s large-format screens in North America and most of its foreign screens to itself. Imax reserving all of its screens for a single movie for a month is not unprecedented, but it is unusual. The company had a similar deal for the three Hobbit movies, but it struck that pact four years ago and hasn’t made that type of commitment since.

In June, Imax broke its own opening-weekend record when Jurassic World leapfrogged over Iron Man 3’s $28.8 million to grab $44.2 million worldwide — $21 million from 363 domestic screens and $23.2 million from 443 screens abroad. But Disney’s Star Wars could topple that number. It is expected to open on 375 to 400 screens domestically and more than 400 abroad — there’s no exact count yet because Imax tends to install and open theaters in the fall. Domestically, Force will play in the commercial chains such as Regal, AMC and Cinemark that house Imax screens as well as most museums and other sites with Imax theaters (which have played space-related Hollywood fare including Gravity and Interstellar). Although he declines to discuss specifics, Imax Entertainment CEO Greg Foster expresses his confidence in the film, saying, “Star Wars: Episode VII is the ultimate crossover movie — it crosses over to everyone.” A further factor: Abrams, a fan of the format, has filmed a sequence with Imax cameras to take advantage of the oversized screen.

Rival distributors have resigned themselves to Force taking over Imax screens — and their premium ticket prices — during the holidays. November releases such as Sony’s Spectre and Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2, which have Imax dates, will wind down by Dec. 18. Warner Bros.’ In the Heart of the Sea, set to open Dec. 11, will get only one week in Imax. Fox’s The Revenant, set to go wide Jan. 8, might get a crack at Imax screens by the Jan. 15 weekend. So far, Imax hasn’t announced any January bookings beyond a Jan. 29 opening for Disney’s The Finest Hours. But if moviegoers really are feeling the force, then Star Wars could dominate Imax screens even beyond that.

‘Star Wars’ Character C-3PO is Fashion’s Latest Darling

Via Preen.inquirer.net:

It seems that the fashion world might be starting to get over The Minions.

The latest movie franchise that’s been making a splash is Star Wars, with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December. And the film’s breakout star is none other than C-3PO, who, after years of being outshined by fellow Star Wars robot R2D2, is finally getting his due.

Featured as one of the cover stars in Love magazine’s “The Talents” issue along with Cher, Gisele Bundchen, Florence Welch, and Kate Moss, the golden robot was handpicked by stylist and Love editor in chief Katie Grand and shot by David Sims.

STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT CANON IS ‘COMPLICATED’

Via Ign.com:

Earlier this year, when a book sleeve revealed that Star Wars: Battlefront would be considered canon, most of us assumed it would be the DICE-developed video game. Following Star Wars Celebration, it became clear that the novel, Star Wars: Battlefront – Twilight Company, set following A New Hope, would likely be the canonical entry for that particular brand. But this didn’t answer the major question on most of our minds: Is the Star Wars: Battlefront video game canon, and will it be considered in the future of films, TV, and other games?

“It’s complicated,” Patrick Bach, GM of DICE, told IGN.

Bach explained, “Canon is connected often to story. Is every battle you play out canon, or is this specific item canon? I can’t give you a clear answer on canon.” Because Star Wars: Battlefront does not have a campaign, its true storytelling opportunities are limited. It draws from the Original Trilogy alone, where A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi have already told the true stories of the universe. Cooperative missions take place in “iconic moments” from those films, and could presumably have static, canonical end points — destroying the shield generator on Hoth as the Imperials, disabling the Death Star’s shield on Endor, etc.

Battlefront honors the canon of Star Wars, but the unpredictable nature of competitive multiplayer in an online sandbox means there’s no way to make any match matter to the wider fiction. We never saw TIE Fighters taking down X-Wings in the Tatooine canyons, but DICE adheres explicitly to the Lucasfilm Archives’ original props and the aesthetic of the Original Trilogy. Furthermore, the developer can’t — and often chooses not to — deviate from expectation.

INTERPRETING STAR WARS ALIENS

Via Starwars.com:

”Many Bothans died to bring us this information.” — Mon Mothma

Some species within the Star Wars Legends material have changed considerably over time. One obvious reason for this is the lack of a visual representation in the original source. When a species is mentioned or described in a novel, the actual physical appearance may be open to interpretation. And although they are sometimes described in detail, sources that eventually portray them are usually not directly guided by the original author’s views. As such, they may vary from source to source. A good example of this variation is the krayt dragon, who changes significantly between different books. Most of the interpretations do not even match the only visible clue there is: the krayt dragon skull that’s seen in the Dune Sea scenes of Episode IV.

How Many Bothans?

Similarly, no one knew what a Bothan looked like when Mon Mothma mentioned them in Episode VI back in 1983. They would go largely unexplored until Timothy Zahn described them in his 1991 novel Heir to the Empire as being covered with a fine cream-colored fur. A year later, the Bothans would get their first ever image, in the Heir to the Empire Sourcebook. They looked somewhat human, but with quite a lot of hair. This image was not the most detailed one, but later books by West End Games fleshed out this look. Images of Bothan characters appeared in numerous sources, such as Wanted by Cracken in 1993, Cracken’s Rebel Operatives in 1994, and the 1996 Adventure Journal #10. The interpretation is often the same, a humanoid being, with a flat, broad nose, pointy ears and mane-like fur. From time to time the Bothans would almost resemble something from the early Planets of the Apes films. The comic adaptation of Shadows of the Empire also followed this look.
