10 Star Wars The Force Awakens Theories

Via Screenrant.com:

In the months leading up to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans spent a lot of time theorizing about what might happen in the new film. When they finally got to see the movie, they discovered that there was still plenty left to be discussed, as not all the questions initially posed were answered. Moviegoers are now beginning the wait for Episode 8, and they’re going back to what they do best: speculating about Star Wars. Here are 10 amazing Star Wars: The Force Awakens Theories That Change Everything.

HAN SOLO IS STILL ALIVE

For longtime fans, it was very heartbreaking to see iconic character Han Solo meet his noble end, being murdered by his own son. Understandably, they don’t want to think about future Star Wars without Han, so some have hoped that Solo lived through the fateful encounter. After all, Darth Maul was cut in half and was later revived in the animated Clone Wars series, so why can’t something similar happen for Han? Unfortunately, it’s just wishful thinking. Not only did the planet blow up, Han’s death was the key emotional moment of Episode 7, and Lucasfilm won’t want to undermine that. There’s a reason Harrison Ford isn’t in the Episode 8 cast.

KYLO REN SAVED REY

Ben Solo destroyed the Skywalker family when he turned to the Dark Side, but he still has a soft spot in his heart. Some think that Kylo Ren is the one who took Rey to Jakku where she would be safe. In Rey’s Force Vision, there’s a part where Kylo stabs someone about to attack Rey, suggesting he may have saved her during an assault. Kylo is also very interested in Rey throughout the film, asking “What girl” when told of her involvement with BB-8 and asking to be her teacher in the ways of the Force. The novelization implies he knows her, and this would be an interesting dynamic.

Why C-3PO Had A Red Arm In “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

Via Hellogiggles.com:

There’s no doubt that in the adrenaline-rush of watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you could easily miss some of the more juicy details, but one fact that stuck out to fans everywhere was that C-3PO had a red arm that was NEVER EXPLAINED.

But, knowing that we were dying to know why oh why C-3PO had that new appendage, Disney has finally given the reason behind it. A recently released one-shot Marvel comic (written by James Robinson, Tony Harris, and Joe Caramagna) tells the story of our brave C-3PO (aka Threepio) on a mission for the Resistance with a bunch of other droids. During the dangerous mission, things go awry and all of the droids lose their lives except our favorite little protocol partner and one other red droid named Omri. While Omri, like the others, eventually sacrifices himself for the greater good of the Resistance and their mission, Threepio only ends up losing his arm. In an effort to remember the sacrifices of the brave droids and the lessons he learned while serving with them (a feeling he’s capable of thanks to his advanced sentient programming), he decides to reassemble himself with Omri’s red arm.

Basically, he uses the limb in remembrance of his brave fallen comrades and the sacrifices they and so many others have made for this greater good. With heavy memories like that, it’s no wonder he loves having the goofy R2-D2 around to provide a little levity with his courage.

The story is a reminder that even a polite droid can have a haunted past. So be kind to your robot neighbors and friends. They, obviously, can feel all the feelings, too.

iTunes Extras is the ultimate way for fans to get instant access to a film’s bonus content — along with any additional Extras content, like ‘Dressing the Galaxy,’ that becomes available even after the film’s initial digital release.

For Costume Designer Michael Kaplan and his team there were many elements to be considered with designing the look for Daisy Ridley as Rey. “We knew she was going to be in a world of men doing things like climbing and dealing with rocket parts and living this Spartan life, so we had to make her practical, but we also wanted a glimmer of femininity about her,” says Kaplan. “I also knew there were going to be sandstorms and dust, so I wanted the character to be in light colors. It also felt right for her emotionally and for the desert. It also felt very Star Wars especially when you look back at Luke and Leia.”

Continuing, he says, “We eventually gave her a wrap, which could protect her face against dust storms. Everything is there for a reason, but it gives her a very beautiful image when all the pieces are put together. Rey wears the costume throughout the film, although we had 25 copies made and about 12 pairs of boots.”

Rey

We first encounter Rey as she rides across the desert on this large, almost tractor-like speeder, her face covered with her wrap and goggles. It is intentional that audiences won’t know whether she’s a man, woman or even an alien. “J.J. [Abrams] wanted her to be mysterious,” continues Kaplan “So she has this frog mouth and strange goggles. You really don’t know what you’re looking at, and then as she unwraps her face you see that it’s this young girl. Fans can learn more about the origins of Rey’s goggles when they check out “Dressing the Galaxy.”

J.J. Abrams May Have Revealed A Clue About Rey’s Parents

Via Hollywoodreporter.com:
Speaking at the Tribeca Film Festival, the ‘Force Awakens’ director seemingly ruled out a number of likely suspects for Daisy Ridley’s character’s mom and dad.
J.J. Abrams has already said he knows who Rey’s parents are, but he of course isn’t naming names.

And speaking at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, the Force Awakens director seemed to reveal who her parents aren’t.

During the audience Q&A after the talk between Abrams and Chris Rock concluded, a young fan asked the question on many Star Wars fans’ minds: Who are Rey’s parents?

At first Abrams jokingly told the kid to get out. But then he may have dropped a big clue about the identity of Daisy Ridley’s character’s mom and dad: “Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII. So I can’t possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too.

That information seems to contradict popular speculation that Rey could be Luke’s daughter or the daughter of Luke’s sister Leia and possibly Han Solo, making her Kylo Ren’s sister.

At the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour, Abrams said of Rey’s parents: “I know quite a bit.”

“Obviously it’s not for me to talk about in this moment because this is [Episode VIII director] Rian [Johnson]’s story to continue now,” Abrams continued. “The last thing I’m going to do is reveal something that he would be upset about. I want to make sure that Rian gets the courtesy that he showed me.”

But with many more Star Wars films in the pipeline, including Episode VIII, perhaps in time fans, and Rey, will find out more about her family.

After the Q&A, though, Abrams clarified his comments to Entertainment Weekly. “What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world,” Abrams said.

Who killed Constable Zuvio?

Via Ew.com:
With the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-ray now on sale, Entertainment Weekly is featuring five days of new behind-the-scenes stories from director J.J. Abrams. Here’s the final installment… A Star Wars whodunit, finally answered.

EPISODE V: WHO KILLED CONSTABLE ZUVIO?
First off, maybe he’s not actually dead. How can you kill something who barely exists?

Whatever his fate in the Star Wars universe, Constable Zuvio was effectively exterminated in ours, with his disappearance becoming one of the most enduring real-life mysteries of The Force Awakens.

The character burst into the pop-culture consciousness as one of the alien creatures revealed last September during the merchandise bonanza known as Force Friday. First there was a toy – not just the cheaper, kid-friendly action figure built for heavy-duty backyard play, but an elaborately rendered 6-inch Hasbro Black Series collectible for the serious Star Wars completists.

Then in November, with just a month left before the movie’s debut, a First Look photograph made its debut, showing a close-up of this saucer-helmeted lawman with the exceptionally angry eyes – flanked by two similar-looking deputies in the background. Zuvio even had a posse.

The anticipation kept building: How would Constable Zuvio fit into the new saga? Was he aligned with the Resistance or the First Order – or did he have some separate agenda of his own? The possibilities for this galactic denizen seemed endless.

But the questions remain, for one simple reason…

Constable Zuvio wasn’t in the movie.

Like, at all.

J.J. Abrams Says We Will See More ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Deleted Scenes

Via Collider.com:
When Collider’s Steve Weintraub spoke to J.J. Abrams at the junket for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Abrams said they had about dozen full deleted scenes, and that about ten to twenty minutes would end up on the Blu-ray. However, the Blu-ray was released last week with nowhere near that amount (it’s closer to five minutes of very brief scenes, and there’s no commentary on why those scenes were cut), so Steve decided to follow up with Abrams (who was walking the red carpet with Simon Pegg) at CinemaCon.

When asked if there are any more deleted scenes on the way, Abrams replied:

J.J. ABRAMS: I think there are going to be some more that are going to be available online, but I don’t know when that’s going to happen. But there are some others.

SIMON PEGG: Most of them feature me, funnily enough. There’s a whole story featuring Unkar. Like him opening his shop—

ABRAMS: There is, actually.

Did Disney say “We’re going to have an ultimate box set and we want to save five minutes for that box set after Episode 9?”

ABRAMS: No, Disney’s been amazing. There’s been no nefarious or weird, “Let’s hold things back for the fans,” but there will be other deleted scenes that will be available for those who wish to see them.

I would beg to differ on that. While it may not be “nefarious”, certain special features were held back for certain retailers (for example, you can only get some extras if you buy at the Blu-ray at Target) and we all know that there will be some super-duper box set at the end of the trilogy because that’s how studios operate. If you love the movie and don’t mind double-dipping that’s fine, but I will be in no way shocked when that box set is announced with “never before seen deleted scenes”.

In case you missed it, here’s a brief look at a deleted scene featuring Kylo Ren, and here are images from other deleted scenes.

Was The Shuttle In Rey’s Vision A Clue To Her Parents’ Identity?

Via Digitalspy.com:
That vision of Daisy Ridley’s hero might hold another secret.

We can’t quite believe the ongoing ability for Star Wars: The Force Awakens to spin off more and more fan theories without any sign of slowing down even five months after the fact.

There are some eagle-eyed fans out there, and Reddit user smokey_sunrise is the latest to pick up on an intriguing nugget from Star Wars’ 40 years of lore.

Remember the shuttle we saw in Rey’s vision, apparently taking her parents away from Jakku and leaving her all on her lonesome?

Well, a strikingly similar ship has been seen before… in a 1984 issue of Marvel’s classic Star Wars comic.

The shuttle was used by Luke Skywalker after the events of Return of the Jedi. Could this be another clue that he really is Rey’s dad?

Even Lucasfilm’s designers are getting in on the action (via Moviepilot).

Disney are reportedly happy for writers to take inspiration from the Star Wars Extended Universe, so this theory doesn’t seem beyond the realms of possibility.

Rey actress Daisy Ridley recently poured cold water on theories that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s Jyn Erso could be her character’s mother.

Expect more revelations about Force sensitive parentage in Star Wars Episode 8 when it is released in December 2017.
