INTERVIEW WITH SIMON KINBERG

Via Starwars.com:

With the launch of Star Wars Rebels, a new era begins for a galaxy far, far away. Set between the prequel and original film trilogies, the canonical animated series tells the story of a small band of heroes — Kanan, Ezra, Zeb, Sabine, Hera, and their grumpy droid, Chopper — who dare to fight back against the Empire, eventually resulting in the formation of the Rebel Alliance. Filling in a hugely important gap in the overall Star Wars saga, the show’s look is inspired by the work of original trilogy concept artist Ralph McQuarrie, and its place in the timeline allows for the inclusion of stormtroopers, haughty Imperial officers, and lots of TIE fighters – core elements of Star Wars villainy that we haven’t seen onscreen for a long time. But it also recalls the feel and tone of classic Star Wars, from a sense of wonder to genuine heart. That’s easier said than done, and that particular success comes courtesy of the show’s creators, including executive producer Simon Kinberg.

A veteran screenwriter and producer with blockbuster credits including Sherlock Holmes and X-Men: Days of Future Past, Kinberg is one of the major creative forces shaping the future of Star Wars. And that future arrives with the one-hour premiere episode of Star Wars Rebels, “Spark of Rebellion,” which he wrote. In celebration of the show’s debut, StarWars.com caught up with Kinberg about developing the series, why Zeb has a British accent, and what it’s like to add to the Star Wars bible.

Snacks For The Rebels Premiere

Via Nerdist.com:

Star Wars is back on television! For those unaware, Star Wars Rebels is a new animated series on Disney XD that tells the story of the Rebellion’s beginnings. The show takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope where we’ll be introduced to a whole new cast of characters.

This will be a day long remembered… with cookies. Watch the premiere episode from the safety of your Rebel Base and bake up some Rebel Alliance cookies in the shape of the original New Hope logo! By rolling out the dough and sprinkling them with sanding sugar before they bake, you get an extra sparkly sweet cookie. Plus, this Rebel Alliance Starbird is perfect for dunking into a cold glass of Blue Milk.
Star Wars Rebels Cookies
– makes 24 cookies*

Ingredients
– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
– pinch of salt
– 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
– 1 cup sugar
– 1 egg
– red food gel dye
– red sanding sugar

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar until combined.

Add the egg and the red food gel dye.

Slowly add in the dry ingredients until the dough comes together. The dough will form quickly and when it starts to pull away from the bowl, it’s ready.

Split the dough in two and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill until you are ready to use.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prep baking sheets with silpats.

Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the red sanding sugar all over the rolled out dough, then use the cutter cut out the cookies. Transfer onto the prepped baking sheet.

Bake for 10 minutes, let cool on a wire rack.

Blue Milk

– blue food gel dye
– 16 ounces milk

Stir the blue dye into the milk until dissolved. Serve cold.

Rebels Renewed for Season 2

Via Hollywood Reporter:

Disney is betting big on a galaxy far, far away.

One day ahead of the official television premiere, Disney XD has renewed animated series Star Wars Rebels for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
First greenlighted in May 2013, Star Wars Rebels launches with the one-hour TV movie, Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion, on Friday, Oct. 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel and on Monday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Disney XD. The series then continues on Disney XD starting Monday, Oct. 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Star Wars Rebels takes place between Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, which spans about two decades. The animated series is set in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.
The crew of the Ghost starship — Jedi Kanan, pilot Hera, street-smart teenager Ezra, the “muscle” Zeb, warrior Sabine and droid Chopper — are only among the few brave enough to stand up against the Empire. They’ll face new villains (see: Inquisitor) and adversaries and go on adventures as they become heroes with the ability to ignite a rebellion.

New Rebels Products

Via Starwars.com (via our friend James Burns):

Unlike Star Wars, which launched with no merchandise upon release in 1977, there are already a plethora of new products available from Star Wars Rebels. Here’s a guide to what you can find now. Hasbro has lots of Star Wars Rebels-related products landing in stores right now, starting with the regular 3¾” action figures featuring Ezra Bridger, the Inquisitor, and Kanan Jarrus, all with five points of articulation and great sculpts. There’s also the Mission Series 2-packs of action figures, which feature two likeminded or opposing characters from the TV show, including Hera Syndulla and stormtrooper,  Zeb Orrelios  and stormtrooper, Sabine Wren and stormtrooper, and R2-D2 and C-3PO. The Phantom and the Inquisitor’s TIE Advanced Interceptor are also available as part of the action figure vehicle range.  There’s also a line of 12” figures available, too.
