Vanessa Marshall – A Loyal Star Wars Fan
Via nzherald:
She might have scored a plum role on the latest Star Wars TV show, but Vanessa Marshall does not want JJ Abrams’ upcoming movie spoiled for her.
“I don’t want to know anything about Episode VII – not a single thing,” she laughs down the phone from Los Angeles.
“Personally, I don’t like spoilers. It’s wonderful to experience the magic for the first time – that’s what I want for myself for Episode VII.”
Secrecy is something Marshall’s become used to since landing the voice role of Hera in Star Wars Rebels, the new show from Disney/Lucasfilm which sees its first episode, a stand-alone mini-movie, screening in New Zealand today as part of TV2’s Labour Day line-up.
The animated show, a funnier, friendlier spin-off from the acclaimed six-season The Clone Wars, revolves around a young goofball trainee Jedi called Ezra, a conman who joins rebels based on the starship Ghost.

Luke Skywalker Easter Egg In Rebels

Part of the promise of setting “Star Wars Rebels” in between the two trilogies was that we could see familiar characters during a period that we don’t know much about.
R2-D2 and C-3PO were the first big cameos, but the latest episode featured a cameo by an iconic “Star Wars” character… Just not in the form you’re familiar with.
The scene came near the beginning of the episode, as Ezra (he’s the guy with bluish hair below) wandered into a market.

STAR WARS REBELS: EDGE OF THE GALAXY
Via Starwars.com:
Last fall, Lucasfilm approached me with one of those offers you can’t refuse — the chance to write a quartet of young-adult books that would connect with Star Wars Rebels.
My editor explained that the setting of the Servants of the Empire series would be Lothal, with action taking place in Capital City, with its Imperial Academy, as well as in the lush green grasslands surrounding the city. The protagonist would be a supporting character from the show — Zare Leonis, a young Imperial cadet who helps Hera Syndulla’s rebels from inside the Imperial war machine.
The broad outlines of Zare’s story had been established: Zare was an immigrant to Lothal who dreamed of serving the Empire, following in the footsteps of his older sister Dhara, the star cadet at Lothal’s Imperial Academy. But Dhara would disappear under mysterious circumstances, forcing Zare to rethink his beliefs and risk everything to find her.

Rebels Restoring Faith for ‘Star Wars’ Fans
Via Yahoo.com:
For many fans of the original Star Wars movies, the prequels were a huge let-down. But in recent years, the property has been revived by high-quality animated fare such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars. While we, once again, wait with a mix of fear and hopefulness for Episode 7, Star Wars Rebels is currently combining the best of the animated world and the old films.
After the first episode — an hour-long TV Movie Star Wars: Spark of Rebellion — aired a few times over the last week (its premiere brought in 2.7 million viewers in the U.S. and 6.5 million worldwide), the series settles into its regular slot Mondays at 9 p.m. on Disney XD. Here are five mildly spoilery things that should either convince you to see Rebels, if you loved Star Wars but haven’t visited the universe in a while, or remind you of what you liked if you have seen it.

Disney Wants To Bring Star Wars to A New Generation With Rebels
Via Thegaurdian.com:
Star Wars Episode VII is due to be released in December 2015 as the first new film in the series since Disney bought Star Wars producer Lucasfilm in October 2012.
In the meantime, there’s Star Wars Rebels, a new animated TV series set in the Star Wars universe, airing on the Disney XD channel and aimed at children – although a fair few adults are likely to be tuning in too.
Star Wars Rebels’ showrunner is Dave Filoni, a young fan of the original films who grew up to work with George Lucas on Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated TV series and film.
“One thing he felt was important was that we would never treat any content like animation as any lesser than the films that he made,” said Filoni in a keynote speech at the MIPJunior television industry conference in Cannes this weekend.
One key aim for Star Wars Rebels is to attract a new generation of children to the franchise, with a new set of characters rather than the familiar faces from the six films to date.

Star Wars Rebels Will Connect To The Star Wars Film Series
Via Cinemablend.com:
Disney XD has a hit on its hands with Star Wars Rebels, a brand new animated series that fills in gaps between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and the iconic franchise launcher, A New Hope. The show kicked off with a well-received hour-long movie, and will continue tonight with the premiere of the first official episode, Droids in Distress. Those of us tracking J.J. Abrams’ Stars Wars: Episode VII wonder how the excellent show will connect to the future film properties, and now we have an answer.
Dave Feloni acts as executive producer and showrunner on Star Wars Rebels, and conducted a lengthy interview with SFGate.com over the weekend. While mapping out the course of the television show, Feloni talked about how it will connect to the film properties – and how having everything under one roof now means each component has to wonder how it will affect upcoming movies, shows, comics and so on. Feloni explained:
