Jedi’s Journey Back To ‘Star Wars’

Via Usatoday.com:

A lot happened between the time teenage Jedi apprentice Ahsoka Tano walked away from Anakin Skywalker and into the sunset on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and reappeared several years later fighting the Empire in Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels.

Ahsoka became fan favorite among youngsters who watched the Clone Wars, so fans wondered about the animated warrior’s ultimate fate. This exclusive video delves into the behind-the-scenes workings in getting the former Padawan back on screen, from Filoni figuring out where she could fit into the ongoing story to voice actress Ashley Eckstein getting the call she’d voice Ahsoka once more to the Star Wars faithful who embraced her return.

“I want to know where she is, what she’s been doing all of these years, where she’s going,” Eckstein told USA TODAY earlier this year. “It’s natural Ahsoka’s going to have several questions and she’s going to want to figure things out so I look forward to going on that journey with her.”

Ahsoka was revealed as the mysterious hooded informant codenamed “Fulcrum” in the first-season finale of Rebels in March, and she takes on a mentor role with the crew of the Ghost when the show comes back with a one-hour second-season premiere on June 20 (9 p.m. ET/PT).

Yet another old Clone Wars co-star is back, too, in a way: Ahsoka’s former friend and mentor Anakin has been twisted and transformed into the evil Darth Vader, setting up what could be an emotional confrontation sometime in the future.

“She comes with a tremendous amount of galactic baggage,” Filoni said. “We’ll get into it on some level and I’ll save it for the dramatic form. It should fuel fans for a while to come.”

10 ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Facts

Via Screencrush.com:

Star Wars Rebels feels the force of a largely unexplored period in Star Wars history, but did you know the Disney XD animated series owes quite a bit to Ralph McQuarrie’s original movie concept art? Or that it needs its own continuity expert on the films? These are just some of the Imperial intelligence to uncover in the eighth episode of ‘You Think You Know TV?,’ which ignites the spark of Disney’s Star Wars Rebels!

More than simply borrowing Ralph McQuarrie’s original designs (specifically for Zeb and Chopper), Rebels actively draws influence from the production design of the original trilogy, even recycling sound effects and working to recapture the original lightsaber look and feel. Surprisingly, the series also takes a few pages from esteemed artist Hayao Miyazaki.

‘You Think You Know TV?’ is a ScreenCrush original series that dives deep into the worlds of your favorite TV series and freeze frames a few tidbits you might not have known, as with our other installments for Better Call Saul, The X-Files, The Flash, Arrow, Mad Men, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Our companion series ‘You Think You Know Movies?’ has already tackled everything from Star Wars to Mad Max to The Avengers, but now it’s time to battle the Empire with Force-ful facts from our latest video, Star Wars Rebels!

Star Wars Rebels: 10 Reasons Every Fan Should Watch It

Via Whatculture.com:
Since the dawn of Star Wars, there have always been spin offs. From video games and books, to animated series’ and that holiday special, the rich and detailed Star Wars universe has hosted a number of iterations that offered fascinating insights into the characters and locations viewers only caught glimpses of in the cinematic series.
Since Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars franchise, the company started work on the CGI animated series that became Star Wars Rebels. Available on Disney XD, we have already seen a full season of episodes and can look forward to a second season starting in June 2015. Filling the void left by the hugely popular Star Wars Clone Wars programme, Rebels has already recieved relatively decent critical and mainstream praise despite its younger target audience.
Rebels is set years before the events of A New Hope and follows the crew of a starship called The Ghost, as they partake in small scale operations which aim to disrupt and tackle the Empires grip around the planet of Lothal, which sows the seeds for what will surely grow in to the Rebel Alliance from the original trilogy of movies.
So why should any self identifying Star Wars fan pick up an animated series aimed at a younger audience of new and emerging fans of the franchise? Well, there are plenty of reasons…

Simon Kinberg Talks ‘Star Wars Rebels’

Via Slashfilm.com:

If only I could’ve talked to Simon Kinberg two hours after I talked to him at Star Wars Celebration. I would have seen the season 2 premiere of Star Wars Rebels which answered many of the questions I asked. Even better, if I could’ve talked to him two weeks later, I could have asked the show’s executive producer about his Fantastic Four director, Josh Trank, leaving the Star Wars universe. Alas, neither of those things happened.

What did happen was a quick, 1:1 chat minutes after seeing the Star Wars Rebels season 2 trailer at Celebration which raised a whole bunch of questions about the second season of the hit show. Basically, if you weren’t at Celebration and only watched the trailer for Rebels Season 2, this is the perfect interview for you. Even if you were there though, there’s good stuff in here.

Kinberg talked about working with the story group to bring original trilogy characters into the series, that shocking season one finale, how far he is into season two and the end game of the series. Below, read our latest Simon Kinberg Star Wars Rebels interview.

MENTORS IN STAR WARS REBELS

Via Starwars.com:

Studying Skywalkers is an exclusive column that investigates the characters, themes, and lessons of Star Wars from an educational, literary perspective. In this installment, StarWars.com looks at the role of mentors in Star Wars Rebels.

Last month, we examined the role of the mentor in the cinematic Star Wars universe. However, the animated world of Star Wars Rebels features many wonderful examples as well. Both series present he saga with new characters, new relationships, and new opportunities for growth and change, courtesy of the mentor/mentee relationship. Each mentor passes on wisdom and knowledge, and allows opportunity for personal growth of the pupil (or Padawan, as the case may be). Looking at the relationships of these characters more closely reveals a wonderful continuation of the mentor relationship in Star Wars.

The Characters Of Star Wars Rebels Could Make Their Way To Live-Action

Via io9.com:

Good news for you Star Wars Rebels fans. Despite the fact the animated show is set in-between Episodes III and IV, producers Simon Kinberg and Dave Filoni have declared that it’s possible for Ezra, Hera, Kana and the others to show up elsewhere in the Star Wars universe — and possibly in the live-action movies as well.

The two producers revealed this interesting possibility at last week’s Star Wars Celebration. Here’s Kinberg, when /Film asks if the Rebels could be involved in the stories told in the live-action movies:

Absolutely there’s been conversation about it. That this story could be a story that crosses over into other films, whether it’s A New Hope or other movies. And that movies could potentially even enter into our timeline and our moment. It’s a big galaxy. So, you know, things are happening all over the place that don’t necessarily have to react to each other, the way we react to news around the world. We never meet the Chilean miners that are trapped in that mine. We know about it and the world reacts to it. So each of the different stories has to acknowledge the reality of what’s ever happening in that moment in time.
And here’s Filoni, when directly asked if the Rebels could come to live-action:

I would never say never to that. I mean, now that Lucasfilm is so integrated in story from top to bottom in all different forms of media, we already have had our characters cross over into novels. We’re gonna have our crossover into comic books. I would say it’s entirely possible. And I would encourage it.

I’ve talked to the creators of the other films going on and, you know, I’ve always made it clear if you want somebody, just let me know. They can jump over there. I don’t care. I’m all for it. Because I think it makes the experience for fans so much stronger. And what a moment it would be to see some of these animated characters up there live on the screen. It would be great for me too.
Perhaps making it to sequel trilogy could b a bit of a stretch — I’m not sure how I’d feel about seeing an 80-year-old Ezra in, say, Episode VIII — but given that some of the new live-action movies will take place in other times, it would extremely easy for Kana’s crew to make a cameo somewhere. In fact, the first stand-alone Star Wars movie, Rogue One, is set before A New Hope, exactly as Rebels is. Could occasionally homicidal droid Chopper have a role to play in getting the plans to the Death Star?

Dave Filoni Explains the ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Ezra Lightsaber/Blaster Hybrid

Via Slashfilm.com:
Just when everyone was busy talking about Kylo Ren’s lightsaber in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Star Wars Rebels team jumped on board with a strange design of their own. They introduced Ezra’s lightsaber, which looks like a staple gun and combines a blaster with a lightsaber. Because it wasn’t in theaters, this unique new Star Wars weapon didn’t creator the fervor of its cross-guarded counterpart, but it was still a radical departure from what Star Wars fans expect from the series’ elegant weapons.

At Star Wars Celebration, we spoke with Rebels producer Dave Filoni and since he wasn’t giving up many details on season 2, we asked about Ezra’s saber. Where did the idea come from? How was it designed? What was the purpose and was it hard getting it approved by the Lucasfilm Story Group? Read everything Filoni had to say about the Ezra lightsaber below.

6 THINGS YOU CAN LEARN FROM HERA SYNDULLA

Via Starwars.com:

The crew of the Ghost wouldn’t get very far without Hera Syndulla. Besides the fact that she owns the ship and uses her exceptional piloting skills to get them out of trouble on a regular basis, she’s the heart of the Star Wars Rebels team. Hera determines which missions the team takes and seems to know exactly when someone needs a word of encouragement. That said, she also knows when holding the line and risking personal conflict is more important than divulging secrets that aren’t hers to share. Simply put, she’s a leader through and through.

Until the Season One finale, Hera was the only person aboard Ghost who knew the rebels were part of a bigger plan. It couldn’t have been an easy burden to carry, but she did so and stayed on target. Because of her guidance and wisdom, the team’s efforts rippled out from Lothal and inspired citizens to open their eyes and see beyond the Empire’s facade. Whether you’re fighting against an oppressive government or waging personal battles, you can learn from Hera’s actions.
