Eat this cupcake quickly, as he can engage his rocket boots at any moment and it’ll be too late for dessert.

Scientists Say Space Travel Has Made Star Wars’ Princess Leia Older Than Her Twin Brother Luke Skywalker

Via Radiotimes.com:

Don’t be surprised if Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia looks a little older than her brother Luke when the Star Wars twins return to cinema screens later this year: scientists at the University of Leicester say that by now she actually has about two years on him.

And it’s all thanks to Einstein’s Theory of Relativity (no pun intended).
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the old E = mc 2 jargon, Einstein’s theory says that if you move fast enough through space, the observations that you make about space and time differ somewhat from the observations of other people, who are moving at different speeds.
That means, for example, that the time on a ship which is moving very quickly appears to pass slower than on Earth. And they call this little phenomenon time dilation.

The students from the university’s Department of Physics and Astronomy decided to carry out a study to figure out how time dilation might have affected Luke and Leia, based on their journeys to Cloud City in Empire Strikes Back.

Leia starts her journey in the neighbouring system of Anoat and arrives at Cloud City in around 6.72 hours, while Luke’s journey from Dagobah, in a star system much further away, takes around one week.

The Millennium Falcon also packs larger and probably more powerful engines than Luke’s X-Wing fighter, so the students presumed that it would travel at a much faster speed, giving Leia’s journey a time dilation of 62.6 days.

Meanwhile Luke’s journey results in a time dilation of 700.8 days, making him roughly 683.2 days younger than his sister by the time they both arrive at their destination.

12 Little-Known Facts About The Beloved Space Saga

Via Sunderlandecho.com:

With The Force Awakens due to hit screens on December 18, excitement over Star Wars is reaching fever pitch once again.

Now, with only 12 weeks to go until the big day, here are 12 little-known facts about everyone’s favourite space saga …

The first Star Wars film, which was released in 1977, is known as Episode IV: A New Hope, but it wasn’t always this way. It only gained its episode number and sub-title when it was re-released in 1981, after the second film in the series, The Empire Strikes Back, had been released as Episode V in 1980.

Star Wars and toys go together like Tusken Raiders and gaffi sticks, but the success of the original film came as such a surprise when it was released that there were no toys based on the movie ready for Christmas 1977. So, in a bid to not miss out on the holiday season, toy company Kenner sold an empty box with a promise that the action figures would be delivered later. (Those empty boxes are now worth around £1,200!)

The Star Wars films already star one famous princess, but if things had turned out differently they could have featured a real-life royal. Koo Stark, an old girlfriend of Prince Andrew before his marriage to Sarah Ferguson, shot scenes for the first Star Wars film playing a friend of Luke Skywalker named Camie. Unfortunately for Koo, the scenes were left on the cutting room floor and have yet to re-appear in a special edition (so far).

Star Wars is full of strange creatures with bizarre languages and accents but it was the warm West-Country tones of Darth Vader actor David Prowse that caused the most hilarity on set. The well-known Vader voice was overdubbed by James Earl Jones but on set the lines were provided by Bristol-born David. The American actors in the film found this so funny they dubbed him Darth Farmer!

SALACIOUS CRUMB CAKES

Via Starwars.com:

LEARN HOW TO MAKE THE MOST FIENDISH SNACK IN THE OUTER RIM!
When you’re trying to run the galaxy’s most notorious criminal empire, it always helps to have someone by your side who’s there to laugh at all your jokes. That’s why Jabba the Hutt has Salacious Crumb with him at all times, to belittle the people that need belittling.

Since Salacious Crumb’s name is so similar to a delicious dessert, it only makes sense to bake up a batch of tempting crumb cakes in his honor.

Not your traditional recipe, these actually use the crumb of the cakes to shape his face. Quite the sacrifice for a creature so self-serving.

Keep a crumb cake by your side to mock your friends or just eat him when you’re tired of his shenanigans. Either way, Salacious Crumb Cakes are the feistiest dessert this side of Carcoon.

‘Star Wars’ Murals – 3,597 Post-It Notes

Inspired by the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Viking let four employees get creative on the office walls with some post-it notes and a little imagination. The team created post-it note murals of R2D2, Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper and the master himself, Yoda. It took the team about five hours to complete the murals, using 3,597 post-it notes in total – if we laid all the notes end-on-end it would stretch 899 feet! You can check out their blog here.

‘Star Wars’ or ‘Star Trek’? The Debate Rages On

Via Cnet.com:

When it comes to the ultimate science fiction franchise, who does it better? WatchMojo — a site that puts together pop culture videos — released a video Sunday that it hopes decides the long-running debate over whether “Star Wars” or “Star Trek” has the best sci-fi universe.

The WatchMojo team came up with five categories — starships; scope of universe; sci-fi themes; special effects; and heroes and villains — and made a judgment call determining whether “Star Wars” or “Star Trek” triumphed in each category.

When “Star Wars” came out in 1977, for example, it really set the bar for special effects in film, WatchMojo argues. Further, they state “Star Wars” was instrumental in setting the state for the special effects to come, so “Star Wars” won the special-effects category.

With its core mission to boldly go where no man has gone before, “Star Trek” and the members of the USS Enterprise have encountered a slew of alien races and planets. The WatchMojo team determined that “Star Trek” has more thoroughly explored these alien species and planets than “Star Wars” has, and therefore “Star Trek” has a much broader scope of universe than “Star Wars.”

The video really goes to show how amazingly good both “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” truly are, but as there are five categories, one sci-fi universe had to come out ahead. You can see which franchise won out by watching the video above. Do you agree with WatchMojo’s assessment?

‘Star Wars’: 15 Biggest Celebrity Fans

Via Mercurynews.com:

It’s no surprise that, after nearly 40 years of being a pop culture phenomenon, “Star Wars” has helped inspire so many to get into the entertainment business.

It’s also no wonder so many entertainers were salivating at the chance to be part of the dusted-off, new “Star Wars” universe. Many of them have been vocal since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012 and announced a new slate of films.

Here are 15 of the biggest “Star Wars” fans among the famous.

Kevin Smith: In Smith’s 1994 breakout cult classic “Clerks,” one scene involves his two main characters discussing whether “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi” are better, and the ethical implications of destroying a half-completed Death Star with so many innocent workers aboard. The movies also were referenced in “Mallrats.” And, of course, the title and logo of Smith’s film “Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back” borrows heavily from the first “Star Wars” sequel.

Seth Green: The successful actor and “Star Wars” lover has devoted a large part of his career to making comedic “Star Wars” material, especially for the TV series “Robot Chicken.” He also co-created the animated comedy series “Star Wars Detours,” with his “Robot Chicken” co-creator Matthew Senreich, for Lucasfilm; it was shelved when plans for the new trilogy were announced.

Adrianne Curry: The former “America’s Next Top Model” winner and reality show star, who was married to “The Brady Bunch’s” Christopher Knight for six years, is an admitted “Star Wars” nut. She proves that with repeated appearances at conventions and Comic-Con, where she has dressed up in a “Slave Leia” costume. She threw a “Star Wars”-themed pool party for her 30th birthday.
