Collectibles Panel Gallery (SWCA 2015)

Earlier today, at the “Behind-the-Scenes” stage of Star Wars Celebration, fans got a look at the past and future of Star Wars collectibles. Notable companies in the realm of collecting such as eFX, Gentle Giant, Kotobukiya, and Sideshow Collectibles took the stage and engaged the audience in an exciting panel. While thousands packed into the convention center in Anaheim, California, thousands more got to watch online via the live streaming service provided by the official Star Wars website. The panel was hosted by Anita Castellar, the fangirl responsible for managing the countless licenses of toys, collectibles, and electronics at Lucasfilm. Check out these awesome stills from panel that show a remarkable history of collectibles in the world of Star Wars, in addition to some exciting new projects in the works.

A Look Back: Gentle Giant Ltd 1/4th Scale Prototype Style Guide Maquettes Mace and Obi

At today’s collectible panel, Ashly from Gentle Giant LTD gave a great rundown on the long history of Gentle Giant and Star Wars.  One of the things she said was how the first items they did for Star Wars were Style Guide Maquettes in 1/4th scale back in 2001.  I have showed some of these pictures in the past but never gave many details on them, but since the cat is out of the bag, I wanted to share two of the holy grails in my collection: the bronze (painted) 1/4th scale  prototypes of Mace and Obi.

I acquired these sometime in 2004/05 from a private online auction house along with several other prototypes and “one offs”. They have always been a talking point when people visit the collection room.  Here is a quick image of them both.  If you were able to stop by the booth (1122) today (we’ll have pics up tonight), they have the George Lucas (in grey) 1/4th scale that matched these on display.  I will try and do galleries on each one once the madness slows down.
