Phil Lord and Chris Miller Get Executive Producer Credit On ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’
Via Variety.com:
While speaking at the third annual GLAS Animation Festival Friday in Berkeley, Calif., Phil Lord and Chris Miller revealed the credit they elected to take on “Solo: A Star Wars Story” after their shocking mid-production exit as directors of the movie last year.
The directors, who also helmed “The Lego Movie” and “21 Jump Street,” said they’re taking an executive producer credit on the “Star Wars” spinoff.
“We were really proud of the many contributions we made to that film,” Miller told the audience. “In light of the creative differences, we elected to take an executive producer credit.”
Ron Howard took the helm of directing the film once Lord and Miller left the project. The duo added that they wished everyone working on the film the best.
Miller and Lord used their GLAS panel Friday to retell their career from meeting in high school to their latest projects. Starting with their very first animated show “Clone High,” a lot of their early work involved learning by doing. “We were scared to death,” Lord recalled. “We did a lot of things wrong, but it was a crash course.”

Michael K. Williams Discusses Solo: A Star Wars Story
Via Ew.com:
The latest Star Wars movie, titled Solo: A Star Wars Movie, blasts into theaters on May 25 after a huge shake-up on the set. Original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller left the young Han Solo movie last summer due to “different creative visions,” and were replaced by Ron Howard.
Reshoots then began, but Michael K. Williams (of The Wire and Boardwalk Empire fame) — who was playing motion-capture crime lord Dryden Vos — was unable to return to film new scenes “to match the new direction which the producers wanted Ron to carry the film,” according to the actor at the time. That’s because Williams was busy filming The Red Sea Diving Resort, so he was then replaced himself by Paul Bettany as the character also morphed into a live-action human.
How does Williams feel about not being in the final film and being cut out of a Star Wars movie? We asked him that when he popped by EW Morning Live (SiriusXM, Entertainment Weekly, channel 105) to promote the new season of Hap & Leonard on Sundance Channel.
“There are some things in life, you just gotta laugh at it,” says Williams. “That was such an odd turn of events. That’s not the norm. As crazy a town as Hollywood is — I like to be the one that says I’ve seen a little bit of everything in this town — that was one for the textbooks. What are the odds of that happening? There comes a point, you just gotta throw your hands up and, you know what, it just wasn’t meant to be.”
Perhaps the hardest part for the actor is the fact that audiences won’t get a chance to see what he and his cast created together on the Millennium Falcon. “I will tell you this much though,” Williams adds. “What saddens me most is I was very proud of the work that I did. What I believe I have created with Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson and Alden [Ehrenreich, who plays Solo]… I thought it was some great work. We was on the spaceship, and we all had these amazing scenes together, and I thought it was a great opportunity, and I thought it was some great stuff. It’s unfortunate the world won’t get to see it.”

Disney Is Taking a Very Different Marketing Approach With ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’
Via Fortune.com:
Disney and Lucasfilm have finally released the official teaser trailer to the next film in the Star Wars franchise, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The studio actually already released a 46-second teaser to the teaser trailer during the Super Bowl on Sunday, promising via Twitter that a “full” teaser trailer would follow on Monday morning with a little bit of Disney synergy on Good Morning America.
Clocking in at one minute and 43 seconds, the teaser provides some desired first looks at the cast, comprised of familiar characters with new actors (like Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian and Han Solo himself, now played by Alden Ehrenreich) and brand new additions, such as Westworld‘s Thandie Newton and Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke. Woody Harrelson also makes an appearance in what has been reported will be a mentor-like role to Solo, and that indeed appears to be the case when Harrelson’s character says he’s “putting a crew together.”
