‘Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular’ Fireworks Set To Begin June 17th

Via Disneyparks.com:

Several new Star Wars experiences have debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios over the past year, from the opening of Star Wars Launch Bay in December to the most recent additions of the Star Wars stage show “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” and the daily march of Captain Phasma and her fleet of Stormtroopers earlier this spring.

Today we’re happy to share an update on the next exciting Star Wars experience that’s set to delight fans at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – the new Star Wars fireworks show, “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular.”

This new nighttime show, which will be the most elaborate fireworks display in this park’s history, will begin nightly performances on June 17. This elaborate show will combine fireworks, pyrotechnics, special effects and video projections that will turn the park’s Chinese Theater and other buildings into the twin suns of Tatooine, a field of battle droids, the trench of the Death Star, Starkiller Base and other Star Wars destinations. And the show, which will feature music from throughout the film franchise, will be punctuated with a tower of fire and spotlight beams, creating a massive lightsaber in the sky.

New Entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios Needed To Accomodate Star Wars Land

Via wdwnt.com:

With demolition beginning in earnest at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for Star Wars land construction, plans are now underway to replace the World Drive vehicle entrance of Disney’s Hollywood Studios with an entirely new entrance guests can utilize off of Osceola Parkway.

According to permits recently filed with the South Florida Water Management District, the intersection between Wide World of Sports and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will soon be home to exit ramps that will guide guests into the park while making room for the southern edge of Star Wars land at the very boundaries of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Sections of Osceola Parkway will also be widened to handle the expanded traffic expected.

There is now word yet on if the Buena Vista Drive park entrance would close (or remain open just to buses) once this new entrance was complete, but it appears at the very least the World Drive entrance should be shuttered.

Disney has made no official announcement on the project as of yet.

New Star Wars Fireworks Display – ‘the most elaborate’ In The History Of Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Via Orlandoweeekly.com:

Starting this summer, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will get even more Star Wars-y. A brand new nighttime show will debut at the park replacing the current Star Wars-themed Symphony in the Stars fireworks show. The new show is much more than just a traditional fireworks show.

Disney is calling it “the most elaborate fireworks display in the history of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.” Video projections on the Chinese Theater and other buildings harken to the popular Disneyland Forever fireworks that debuted last year. Concept art for the new Star Wars fireworks shows massive fireballs shooting off the roofs along Hollywood Blvd. Large searchlights are used to simulate lightsabers during the show.

The twin suns of Tatooine, a field of battle droids, the trench of the Death Star, and Starkiller Base have all been confirmed as scenes that will be used during the video projection aspects of the show.

Some rumors now point to interactive lightsabers that use a technology similar to the ‘Glow with the Show’ items that are currently available in Disney Parks. Like the current items, including Mickey ears, the lightsabers will likely change colors in sync with the fireworks show.

The show is just one of numerous new Star Wars attractions at DHS. The Star Wars Launch Bay opened last year. A new stage show featuring Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and Darth Maul will debut April 4 on the Center Stage.

A Stormtrooper march from the Launch Bay to the Center Stage will also take place multiple times each day beginning April 4.

All of this is a precursor for the groundbreaking new Star Wars land that is currently under construction at DHS. It will include at least two new rides, multiple shops and dining options and interactive elements throughout. That land is expected to be fully open by WDW’s 50th Anniversary in 2021.

First Look At Disney’s Star Wars Theme Park Expansions

Via Theverge.com:

It’s hard to believe that when Disney announced plans this past summer to build Star Wars-themed expansions in both Disneyland and the Disney World Resorts, The Force Awakens was still a giant question mark looming over the future of the brand. Last night, with the critical success and over $2 billion in ticket sales for the film, a confident Disney used the Disneyland 60 televised event to showcase the first extended look at the theme park project.

Harrison Ford introduced a montage of details and concept art pieces with that “I can’t tell if he wants to be here” swagger. “I’m so blessed that I had the opportunity to be a part of it, to walk in these iconic locations,” said Ford. “And soon, you will be able to do that as well, not in a galaxy far, far away, but a place close to home.”

For regular Disneyland visitors, the art provides something pleasant to look forward to as chunks of the park close indefinitely to make way for construction on the Star Wars project. Judging from the concept art, the expansions could feature a marketplace, a landing bay, a cantina, a museum or store of some sort, a fancy restaurant, and possibly a ride on a Millennium Falcon — or at least a photo-op alongside it.

Disney World’s Hollywood Studios announces Star Wars-themed entertainment

Following the extraordinary popularity of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Walt Disney World Resort is unveiling even more Star Wars-themed entertainment at Disney’s Hollywood Studios starting this spring – including one of the most elaborate fireworks and projection shows in the park’s history.

Just in time for spring, that “galaxy far, far away” will be closer than ever with the April 4th arrival of the new Star Wars live entertainment experience Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away and a menacing First Order Stormtrooper procession at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. And to kick off summer, the park is launching a new nightly fireworks and projection show called Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular that will eclipse anything of its kind in the park’s history.

Here are details on these latest entertainment features coming to Disney World’s Hollywood Studios this spring and summer:

APRIL 4:

Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away: This new live, stage show celebrates iconic moments from the Star Wars saga with live vignettes featuring popular Star Wars characters, such as Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and Darth Maul. The show will take place multiple times each day at the Center Stage area near The Great Movie Ride.

Stormtroopers march: At various times each day, the menacing Captain Phasma will lead a squad of First Order stormtroopers as they march in formation from Star Wars Launch Bay to the Center Stage area in an intimidating demonstration of the First Order’s indomitable strength.

SUMMER:

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular: As the next generation of the current Star Wars-inspired fireworks show, this blockbuster nightly show, unprecedented in Disney’s Hollywood Studios history, will light up the sky with Star Wars-themed fireworks, lasers, light projections and other special effects combined with Star Wars-themed music and iconic characters and scenes from throughout the saga.

Through these state-of-the-art special effects that project onto the nearby Chinese Theatre and other surrounding buildings, guests will gaze at the twin suns of Tatooine, push through a field of battle droids, navigate through an asteroid field, soar down the trench of the Death Star and deliver the final blow to destroy Starkiller Base. The show, which will unfold through a series of acts, will be punctuated by a tower of fire as well as powerful spotlight beams that create lightsabers in the sky.

These latest Star Wars experiences join other new Star Wars elements recently launched at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, such as Star Wars Launch Bay. Since its debut in December, Star Wars Launch Bay has become a popular and central location where guests immerse themselves in the Star Wars saga through themed galleries, large-scale artifacts and Star Wars character encounters, including recently-added Kylo Ren, the menacing character from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Other recent additions that have attracted legions of fans since their December debut include:

– Star Wars: Path of the Jedi, a cinematic reel celebrating the Star Wars saga.
–The enhanced Star Tours – The Adventures Continue that includes new characters and a new journey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
–The reimagined Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, featuring new characters, including the Seventh Sister from the Disney XD series Star Wars      Rebels.
–The “Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular,” a nightly fireworks show set to Star Wars-themed music that will be reimagined as Star        Wars: A Galactic Spectacular this summer.
–First Order stormtrooper patrols.
–Star Wars-inspired food and beverage offerings.

And more Star Wars experiences are on the way with the upcoming Star Wars-themed lands planned for Walt Disney World Resort
and Disneyland Resort in California.
