Battlefront: New Game Mode Is DICE’s Way Of Ramping Up The Action

In a new blog post DICE devs have revealed they wanted to cater to both big budget film fans and those looking for a more personal affair when it came to tense firefights.

Squadron Fighter will make its debut in November and will let players get their fix of aerial combat in the wake of the return of space battles.

Niklas Fegraeus, Design Director behind Battlefront, explained: “Fun is the essence of Star Wars.

“We have chosen to reboot the Star Wars Battlefront franchise instead of making a sequel.

“The way we want to do this is by taking inspiration from the old games’ foundations, like the use of both 1st and 3rd person views and the ability to play as heroes.

“We want to then create a new direction where we add features and capabilities you’ve never seen before.

“For example, we have created new game modes and made new maps to cater to their specific experience. You could see a tiny snippet of this in our trailer where you saw the Fighter Squadron mode, where you engage in huge Starfighter battles over canyons big enough to be truly epic.”

Executive producer Patrick Bach commented on the absence of Space Battles in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, saying: “We want players to stay in the same [environment] – we don’t want players to fly off and do something over here. It’s about the Battlefront experience, so we want to keep you in-atmosphere and fighting with the infantry.”

And keeping to that theme, Fegraeus added how the DICE team hoped to cater for all fans interested in the return of the Star Wars fire-fight title.

“For those not in the mood for large scale battles, we have created Missions where players can, for example, take on armies of AI or test their piloting skills, he said.

“All our Missions can be played either alone or cooperatively, making them perfect for some quick Star Wars action when you have a friend over.”
