Star Wars: Battlefront to hit Spring 2015?

According to this report on engadget.com “Sweden-based developer DICE — best known for the Battlefield series — is making Star Wars: Battlefront. Working closely with Lucasfilm, the game launches in spring 2015.”

In addition, CTVnews.ca reports “EA, which announced an exclusive deal last year with Disney to produce “Star Wars” games for the next 10 years, will detail DICE’s intergalactic adventure “Star Wars: Battlefront” during its E3 presentation on Monday, and the company might tease other “Star Wars” games, including one that’s currently being crafted by its Visceral Games studio.”

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) kicked off today in Los Angeles, I am sure we will have plenty more reports as the day and week moves on.

Star Wars: The Muppet Connection

Via StarWars.com

With the release of Muppets Most Wanted in theaters this week, you may see Muppets everywhere. Did you know that there is a long history of Muppet connections to Star Wars? They may seem very different but over the years there have been many fun crossovers between these worlds (or galaxies). Here are a few favorites.

The most important connection between the Muppets and Star Wars is puppeteer/actor/director Frank Oz. Back in 1978 when The Empire Strikes Back was in the works, Frank Oz was best known for performing Muppet characters like Grover, Bert, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie. Then he gave life and voice to the wise old Jedi Master Yoda for that film (then Episode VI and later I, II, and III) and he became a key part of Star Wars history.

Over the years, Sesame Street has had its share of visits from Star Wars actors including James Earl Jones (voice of Darth Vader), Natalie Portman, (Padmé Amidala), Liam Neeson (Qui-Gon Jinn), and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian). The biggest intergalactic guest stars, though, have to be C-3PO and R2-D2. Our favorite droid duo made appearances in two Sesame Street episodes back in 1980…

Return to Hoth?

On March 18, 2014 Lucasfilm release some long-awaited news about the upcoming “Star Wars” installment. They announced that principal photography on “Star Wars: Episode VII” will commence in May of 2014, in Pinewood Studios. In addition to the announcement of production starting, they laid out the time table for the next chapter of the Saga. “Star Wars: Episode VII” will be set about 30 years after the events of “Return of the Jedi.” It will “star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces,” according to the official Star Wars website.

While this was exciting news for the avid fans of the community, now even more news has been leaked. According to “Visir,” and Icelandic news site, the production crew will be heading to this Artic country before production begins in May. The site claims that Iceland will be used to shoot scenery shots, also known as “plate shots,” for the upcoming Star Wars film. This has led to speculation that we might be returning to Hoth for “Episode VII.”

The scenes from Hoth in “The Empire Strikes Back” were originally shot in Norway, but now it seems possible we might, if only briefly, see a return to the barren ice planet. Perhaps Luke is heading back to the frigid temperatures to go into shock again in an effort to communicate with his former Master, Kenobi? -Alex Rybak
