Harper’s Bazaar hooked up with longtime ‘Star Wars’ illustrator Brian Rood!

Via TMZ.com:

If you don’t think ‘Star Wars’ and fashion go hand-in-hand, step back and watch Disney’s marketing geniuses go to work … with the likes of Kendall Jenner and the Hadid sisters!

Kendall, Gigi and Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber all dropped into a galaxy far, far away for a spread in the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar

It’s actually pretty cool — Harper’s Bazaar hooked up with longtime ‘Star Wars’ illustrator Brian Rood for the feature. Rood turned a Millennium Falcon landing port into a catwalk for the Hadids, and had Kaia strike back on the planet Hoth.

No Spoiler Book Review: The Legends of Luke Skywalker

Review via Yodasnews Contributor Jacob Burdis:

The Legends of Luke Skywalker No Spoiler Review

The Legends of Luke Skywalker is one of several stories in the “Journey to the Last Jedi” series coming out to build excitement and prepare fans for the upcoming films. Both the teaser and full trailer dropped some pretty big bombs with Luke telling Rey “It’s time for the Jedi to end” and then Rey telling Kylo Ren “I need someone to show me my place in all this” as Kylo Ren extends his hand out to her. While the trailers are definitely creating more questions than answers, the “Journey to the Last Jedi” series is providing a few hints.

The format of The Legends of Luke Skywalker is very unique. The main story is set on a transport on its way to Canto Bight to make a delivery of fathiers. Among the crew are several young deckhands who act as the group of protagonists in this story. During their voyage, they are treated with multiple tales about the legendary Luke Skywalker from other members of the crew. Interspersed between the various tales, they experience an adventure of their own during the journey.

I’ll be honest, the first tale almost caused me to put the book down and walk away. It was so ridiculous that I felt like I was wasting my time reading it. I was worried that all the tales would be like this one. But I pressed on, and was greatly rewarded. A couple of the stories described instances in Luke’s life that added a rich backstory that hinted at what could possibly have driven Luke to decide it was time for the Jedi to end. I hypothesized after the first teaser of “The Last Jedi” that we as fans were finally going to see what “balance in the force” actually looks like (read my analysis of the Last Jedi Teaser here). The legends described in this book added a significant amount of fuel to that fire, and have me so much more excited to see “The Last Jedi.”

Only after finishing the book did I come to appreciate how the tidbits of backstory were hidden among obviously false and exaggerated tales of Luke Skywalker. It’s as if author Ken Liu wanted to establish how far from the truth some legends could be before providing one that could be plausible, so that the reader is second guessing the plausible ones as well.

Overall, this was a fun, quick read with very satisfying hints about the upcoming movie “The Last Jedi.” I highly recommend for any level of Star Wars fan!

Domhnall Gleeson almost turned down the role of General Hux

Via www.digitalspy.com:

For an actor, you would think landing a role in something as huge as Star Wars must be a dream come true, but Domhnall Gleeson almost turned it down.  The actor thought the role was too big and would make him more recognizable and famous than he would have liked, but it turns out it hasn’t been as bad as he thought it’d be.

“Why would I have thought of saying no?” he told Radio Times.”Fame is the end goal for a lot of people, but it is not mine.

“I worried that the accompanying fame would get in the way of how I live my life.”

Though in the end, he managed to deal with it all pretty well.

“It got a little crazy for a couple of months – for a while, going out and having a drink with my friends was difficult, and then it died down.”

Book Review: Star Wars Bloodline

Review via Yodasnews Contributor Jacob Burdis:

blood

Last year, Claudia Gray amazed Star Wars fans with her portion of the “Journey to the Force Awakens” series, Lost Stars. I personally read each canon novel in chronological order as part of a 6-month long marathon to prepare for the new film, and of the 16 novels I read, Gray’s was the most rewarding, most exciting, and most thought-provoking of them all.

You can imagine my excitement to learn that Gray’s novel Bloodline was the first novel post The Force Awakens to begin to explore the world into which we were so abruptly thrown last December.

The story is set 20 years after the fall of the Empire, roughly a decade before the events of The Force Awakens. When I first started reading, I was overwhelmed with anticipation that my many questions about the mysterious 3 decades between Episode VI and Episode VII were about to be answered. How did Ben Solo become Kylo Ren? Who is Supreme Leader Snoke? Who is Rey and who left her on Jakku? What happened between Leia and Han? Why did Leia need to organize the Resistance separate from the New Republic? When did the First Order first rear its ugly head? To both my consternation and my awe, Gray does a masterful job at answering only a few of these questions while leaving others a complete mystery. So if you are hoping this book will answer all of your questions, you will be disappointed.

But if you are looking to better understand how the New Republic could possibly come to a point where Leia, who has dedicated the entirety of her adult life to establish the New Republic in the aftermath of the Empire’s downfall, would leave a life of politics to lead the Resistance against the emerging threat known as The First Order, then this book is for you.

Senator Leia Organa is struggling to bring together a divided senate, knowing the dangers that face a fractured government. She decides to take matters into her own hands to investigate a crime syndicate, led by Nikto crime lord Rinnrivin Di, threatening to destabilize the region around Ryloth. To her dismay, she is accompanied by her political and ideological rival, Senator Ransolm Casterfo in an effort to keep the investigation “objective.” This investigation kicks off an epic adventure, which exposes a deeper, sinister plot aimed to destroy the New Republic by a dangerous threat thought only to be legend. Organa and Casterfo struggle to put political differences aside to unite against the greater threat, and in so doing realize how deep the divide in the New Republic really is.

Just as she did in Lost Stars, Gray masterfully exposes the most human elements of her characters as we witness Leia’s courage in persevering after losing both her biological and adopted parents in the same war that destroyed her home planet of Alderaan. We learn that the line between good and evil is especially blurry when it comes to political ideology, and how otherwise good people who are unwilling to understand another point of view are capable of collectively accomplishing great evil. This is a must read, building on the events in the Aftermath series and shedding light on how the great potential of Mon Mothma’s New Republic could be reduced to rubble just 30 years later.

Introducing new heroes and villains to the LEGO Star Wars universe, the animated television series “LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures” will premiere MONDAY, JUNE 20 (10:00 a.m. EST) on Disney XD. Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the action comedy series follows the Freemakers, a family of sibling scavengers who operate a salvage and repair shop in space. The series will also feature familiar characters and locations from the filmed Star Wars saga.

During the series’ premiere week, Disney XD will debut a new episode each day, beginning Monday, June 20 through Thursday, June 23. The first episode will also be available via Video on Demand (VOD) and the Disney XD app for users on tablets, phones, set top boxes and computers on Monday, June 20. The series stars three Freemaker siblings who scour the galaxy for useful debris that they use to build new vehicles of their own design. Rowan, the spunky Force-sensitive 12-year-old with a thirst for adventure, is voiced by newcomer Nicolas Cantu.

His quick-witted older sister, Kordi, voiced by Vanessa Lengies (“Glee”), manages the family business and is the glue that holds the family together. Ace pilot and charming rogue Zander, voiced by Eugene Byrd (“Arrow”), is the oldest brother and the family’s self-proclaimed starship connoisseur. Lucasfilm’s Matthew Wood voices R0-GR, also known as Roger, a refurbished battle droid from the Clone Wars adopted by the Freemaker family.

The humorous and action-packed tale of good versus evil begins when Rowan discovers the Kyber Saber, an ancient artifact with a powerful connection to the Force. Their world is turned upside down as they are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy. Throughout their adventures, the Freemakers learn the true value of what it means to be a family.

In addition to the show, children can explore two new construction sets based on the Freemakers and their adventures (on shelves in June – perfect timing to build alongside the show), and explore the new LEGO® Star Wars™ Force  Builder app (available now) to keep inspiring their building and storytelling adventures.  LEGO Star Wars: The Force Builder app allows anyone to create their own “ugly.” Allowing iPhone and Android users the ability to prototype unique builds, offering thousands of configurations to inform and inspire your own real-life LEGO builds!
