In 2012, Fantasy Flight launched the wildly popular “X-Wing Miniatures Game.” It is a tactical combat game in which the players control Rebel and Imperial ships on a battlefield. The game features detailed and painted miniatures and recreates Star Wars space combat scenarios scene in the movies. The game has been met with high success and tournaments are common across the country in various comic, collectable, and game stores. Many Star Wars fans have partaken in the game as they relive the epic battles seen on the big screen.
One such fan is Chad Hoefle. He and his team decided to combine their passion for Star Wars with charity. They worked together to create an event that would help the Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
Campaign Against Cancer: an X-Wing Miniatures Event (CAC) is a charity fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society. The 2014 CAC will be held at Fantasy Games in South Bend, Indiana on March 29, 2014. Admission into the tournament is $15 per person. Due to the fact that some families play this game together, we do offer a discounted admission for spouse and children. In the case of a spouse and/or child joining you at this event, the ticket prices are $15 for the first person, $10 for the first spouse or child, and $5 for each additional child.
The tournament will consist of 100 point squads and be played in a series of 6 swiss-styled rounds. Three rounds, a lunch break, and then another three rounds. Players will be randomly divided into groups of 8 at the start of the day, each group playing 3 rounds and calculating places from 1st through 8th. After lunch, the pilots will be reorganized based upon their performances, and the top 8 will duel for tournament champion. The other pilots will be grouped together with those that performed similarly to themselves and compete for division prizes.
You can register for the event or just show your support by donating at www.x-wing.org. All proceeds for the event will be directly donated to the American Cancer Society. Many people and stores have donated prizes for those playing in the tournament. Some of the prizes include Star Wars artwork, X-Wing game sets, autographed Star Wars books by Troy Denning and Michael Stackpole, and various comic book memorabilia. A full list is also available at the site listed above.
