Star Wars: Resistance will run for 22 episodes and starts with the aforementioned episode The Recruit. The show features the voice talent of big screen Star Wars cast members, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, and even appearances by BB-8. The first episode sees Dameron giving the young Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono a secret mission to go gather information about the mysterious First Order. The synopsis reads.
“Resistance fighter Poe Dameron tasks young pilot Kazuda (Kaz) Xiono with spying on the First Order. At the time, little was known about the secretive organization and its strength. In order to fulfill his mission, Kaz travels to the space station Colossus, which is being used by many ships as a port to refuel and do repairs. However, there are also dangerous races taking place there. After Kaz bragged with his piloting skills at his arrival there, he is soon drawn into one of the races…”
Overall, The Recruit seems to be a good introduction for the Star Wars: Resistance animated series. Hardcore fans will be anxious to see anything that takes place after Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens, which had been briefly discussed in Claudia Grey’s canon novel Bloodline. The novel ends with Leia starting the Resistance and gives hints of the true power of the First Order. The new animated series takes place shortly after the Resistance had been formed.
In addition to spying on the First Order in this new Star Wars TV show, Star Wars: Resistance will also contain a lot of racing. When Dave Filoni announced show, he stated that, “There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars,” which means that racing will also be a major component to the show. Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono is an ace pilot who will double as a spy for the Resistance, which will more than likely see a lot of sidetracking in order to get to the bits of the show that contain the First Order.
Star Wars: Resistance is believed to premiere in the fall, with new reports saying that the series will make its debut on October 13th. The show will air on the Disney XD Network and we were given a pretty cool tease earlier this month that showed off what the main characters look like as well as the animated versions of Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma. It will be interesting to see where Disney and Lucasfilm take the series and how far it gets into the First Order and its origins. It should be noted that both tweets that broke this story, one of which from Fernsehserien, have been deleted.
