The only way to make the hit song “Chandelier” by Australian pop star Sia better is add some “Star Wars” touches, all-new geeky lyrics and of course, choreographed dance moves that would make even Jabba the Hutt cringe.
In the music parody “Bandolier” — posted by Youtube user Teddie Films — we see a Slave Leia cross-player (gender-swapping cosplay) and Chewbacca dance along to such lyrics as “Keep the Wookiee until morning light, cause Han Solo is in carbonite” and “I’m gonna fly like the Falcon’s hyperdrive, with Chewbacca by my side.”
This isn’t the first time Teddie Films has paid tribute to a galaxy far, far away and the characters who live there. “The Star Wars That I Used To Know” (a parody of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know”) shows fans singing, or more like whining to a melody, about the “Star Wars” prequels. In their “Star Wars” parody of Kesha’s song “Tik Tok” we see the same Princess Leia, played by Eddie King, try to escape Stormtroopers to attend the ultimate party.
While these music videos all showcase a long tradition of filk music parodies — songs that swap well-known lyrics for science fiction tributes — “Bandolier” may be the first time we’ve seen Princess Leia and Chewbacca dance together with such loving abandon.
You may never look at Princess Leia and Chewbacca the same way again.
