Via Digitalspy.com:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens left us with so many questions. Why did Kylo Ren turn to the Dark Side? Who is Snoke? And when will Finn and Poe Dameron finally get together?
Well, we have another to add to the list.
The closing scene in which Rey confronts Luke on Ahch-To, the score most memorably returns to the classic ‘Force Theme’ from the original trilogy. But sharp-eared Reddit user FluidOpus has spotted a more sinister note that hints at trouble for the Jedi Master and his would-be apprentice.
A brief interlude in the music sounds very similar to the theme of none other than the dreaded Darth Vader.
But what could such a reference mean? Obviously, he has a link to Luke Skywalker’s heritage – and quite possibly Rey’s too – but it could hint at darker events to come.
(After all, they could have gone with the lighter music of ‘Anakin’s Theme’ instead – although, incidentally, the end of that piece of music is almost identical to the beginning of the ‘Imperial March’, just in case you thought that John Williams had never used foreshadowing in his Star Wars scores before).
Luke basically went into hiding and let the Republic fall apart again. Has he fallen to the Dark Side in his own way by refusing to use his powers for the good of the galaxy?
Or it could indicate that Rey’s journey may not be as straightforward as we might expect. We’ve met an incredibly gifted young Force user before who promised to bring peace and love to the universe before, as the Vader theme reminds us. And she’d make a much better apprentice for Snoke than poor old Kylo.
Or maybe we’re reading too much into things again. What else are we supposed to do while we wait for Star Wars Episode 8 to arrive in 2017?
