EA Motive may now be collaborating with DICE on the next Star Wars Battlefront, but that doesn’t mean its work with Visceral—or on its own IP—is over.
“The two studios I’m working with are Visceral and Motive, and so obviously the long-term strategy is that we’re going to collaborate on both [Visceral and DICE’s games],” Jade Raymond said in an interview during E3, noting that Motive will still be involved with Visceral
For now, Raymond said that EA Motive is “focusing mostly on Battlefront, but there are still people collaborating between the studios on Amy [Hennig]’s game as well.”
As for the studio’s announced plans for crafting an original IP, Raymond said the studio is “really going to start [work on an original IP] up more in the fall but, we have some early ideation going.”
So while Motive concentrates on its “big new addition” to the Battlefront sequel, Raymond and Motive will continue to be involved with Hennig’s title.
Motive continues to staff up for its work as well, with Raymond noting that while a recent official update on the company’s website announced the studio had grown to 65 people, already another five had joined the team.
Hennig’s Star Wars game was glimpsed briefly during the EA Play press conference along with the announcement of a planned release sometime in 2018. The Battlefront sequel, which both DICE and EA Motive are working on, is aiming for a 2017 release. The video presentation also provided updates on Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars project, Battlefront’s Bespin DLC, which launches later this month, and the Star Wars Battlefront VR mission.
