Organisms Named After Star Wars Characters

Via Comicbook.com:

Ever wish you could hold Darth Vader in your hands? Maybe you just really want to swat Shakira out of the air.

Good news! There are bugs, plants, and animals that have been actually classified with names of celebrities and fictional characters. LoveTheGarden.com put together an infographic featuring twenty of these. There’s the Agathidium Vaderi, a beetle that looks a bit like Darth Vader’s helmet, Yoda Purpurata, a worm with ear-like structures, or the Peckoltia Greedoi fish with bulging eyes. Dementors are one species of wasp, named after the wraiths from Harry Potter, while the Aleiodes Shakirae wasp is named after the singer whose hips most certainly don’t lie.

And while there’s no Han Solo, there is a spider called Calponia Harrisonfordi, named after the actor for his work as a narrator on a documentary for the London Museum of Natural History. They probaly should’ve named a snake after him, though. Check out the full infographic at the link.
