Star Wars is coming to the Disney theme parks in a big way.
The Star Tours ride at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida have been thrilling fans of the films since 1987(!) and got a major overhaul in 2010. But another upgrade is coming in honor of The Force Awakens, which debuts in December. But more than just a quickie salute to the films that have entranced multiple generations, such as converting Space Mountain to “Hyperspace Mountain,” the new lands will be all Star Wars, all the time.
Most importantly, the central attraction of the park will apparently be the most important ship in the films, and the most important in the resistance against the Empire: the Millennium Falcon. It’s the only ship to do the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, baby! Not to mention, it was instrumental in the destruction of not one, but two Death Stars. Hopefully the park will provide a full tour of the ship, complete with 3D holo-chess against a Wookie, but also a ride in the tiny cockpit, suitable for Corellian pilots of all ages.
But that’s not enough. The Star Wars films (and cartoons, and books, and soon maybe even a live action TV show) are rife with great fodder for rides, shows, games, and food outlets.
