A young cancer patient in New Hampshire felt like he was a galaxy far, far away this weekend.
Cole Delisle, 13, has always dreamed of being in the Star Wars world, and some people made that dream come true for him.
A police escort, balloons and the cheers of friends and family was all for one person.
“He’s been through quite an ordeal, we all have been through quite an ordeal for the past few months,” Diane Bilodeau, Cole Delisle’s mother, said.
Diane Bilodeau is talking about her son Cole. In January, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
“He’s had two brain surgeries since then to relieve the pressure in his brain and then he’s gone through chemo treatment,” Diane Biodeau said.
And the Make-A-Wish foundation is helping him just feel like a normal kid.
First, by fulfilling his request of a Star Wars character uniform.
“It was put together over a matter of I guess a month or so, they had to be built, it was hand-painted and so Cole knows that he is getting this uniform, but he doesn’t know to the extent,” Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Donna Parker said.
And that’s when the fun began. Cole walked into a room filled with Star Wars characters fully dressed.
The mayor of Portsmouth presented him with a proclamation declaring Aug. 6 ‘Cole Day’.
Then members of the 501 Legion took Cole behind a curtain and suited him up in his very own uniform. Once he was dressed, it was time for the big reveal.
“I’m very excited and very, very hot,” said Cole. “It’s really been hard to make it through all of this, but I have all my friends through the school year who have helped me, and all these people that have come here.”
All of the people supporting Cole help to make his journey a little brighter.
“It’s really kind of them and it just made my day better, so it’s really nice that they did this for me,” Cole said.
Cole’s brain tumor was diagnosed in January.
He’ll have his final radiation treatments later this week.
